I think I opened my mouth and spoke before my brain kicked into gear. I offered to make a French Braid for a friend's daughter's wedding. Now I am beginning to think of the cost. I did a paper pieced Ginny Beyer King for my daughter and the fabric was about 400.00. Have any of you kept track of the cost as you bought fabric etc? I will do the machine quilting myself.

Get real with the friend right away. Ask if she would accept a lap robe instead if you really can't afford the big quilt costs.
We do tend to forget to engage brain before starting mouth. I'm still cursing because of the one I'm trying to work on now, I forgot that I had made a template for a block and then didn't like it, made another one. But still cut with both of them since I didn't MEASURE them before hand. Now I have enough of each size for a lap robe, but not one big quilt. And I'd promised it to my sister for Valentines' Day. I'm beginning to hate that pattern, used to love it and probably will again. Someday. |
I have one of Ginny Beyer's French Braid wall hanging kits that I am thinking about offering her instead of the quilt.
Thanks for your reply. |

I hadn't thought of that. Thanks

You can find nice fabric on clearance on many online shops. Does it have to be king size? The couple will probably have a guest bed that won't need a big size quilt. And you don't know if the bride will want to use the quilt in her decor. A king size quilt takes up a lot of storage space. Tell you friend you had to reconsider the quilt size and it will have to be for a regular size bed and don't offer any excuses to why.
