Do any of you prewash your cotton batting?

Cathe 06-07-2009 01:14 PM

Yes, I prewash needlepunched cotton batts (not traditional ones) unless I am desiring a puckery look in my finished product.

Ninnie 06-07-2009 01:27 PM

I use warm and natural cotton batting and I never pre-wash it.

Prism99 06-07-2009 01:28 PM

I like the soft, crinkly look so I don't prewash cotton batting.

amma 06-07-2009 01:47 PM

I do if I want smooth look, don't if I am going for a more tradional look.

ninny and amma,

your smilies are underage and drunk.

BellaBoo 06-07-2009 01:56 PM

I would think washing batting would be a big mess. I've never done it.

butterflywing 06-07-2009 02:11 PM

i don't wash, but i do pre-shrink by tossing it in the dryer with a damp towel. as long as it has a srim, i think you're okay. it really depends on the look you're going for.

Kara 06-07-2009 03:25 PM

I don't, but I like the puckery look after you wash the quilt.
If you don't want that look, then follow the directions on the bag to prewash it.

I use Warm & White, and also don't pre-wash. :)

I use an 80%/20% cotton blend, and the quilt shop I bought it from recommended that if I pre-washed my fabric (which I do), then I should also pre-wash the batting (so I do).

I just toss mine in the dryer on a light setting to ease out some of the folds that may occur, otherwise I don't do anything to it

Same here. I also use the warm and white. I love the puckered look though. I have tossed mine in the dryer with a damp towel if it was awfully wrinkled and wouldn't hang out.

I wash in hot and dry in the dryer. Never a problem.
