I picked some fabric today at a local thrift store, fifty cents per piece, some were 3 yards long! and there is one that says 100% cotton on the selvage and has the little tree cotton symbol on it. Well, it feels more like canvas!

Have you guys seen this before? Its really nice and thick.

Duck cloth?

It might made some good totes or outdoor cushions, etc.

Sounds like cotton duck to me. DH used to buy it for displays at the museum.

It is most likely duck cloth. It makes GREAT totes. Great find!

I agree that it is likely a cotton canvas or duck cloth. You can also use it stretched over a frame for painting on with either oils or acrylics.

It does sound like duck cloth (it isn't striped like ticking is it). The stuff makes really nice karate uniforms, photo backdrops, tote bags, grocery bags (got to think green), etc. I used some to make a pressing board which I love. There's so many uses.

What's "duck cloth"? Is it 100% cotton? On the selvedge(sp?) it says:

"MARITIME VOYAGE" Home Seasons by WAVERLY, 100% cotton Dry Cleaning Recommended"

and then the little cotton symbol with the tree.

Its red with boats, and boating motifs on it, like anchors, etc. Its really cute.

Its not quite as stiff as canvas, but kind of feels like it.

I think I will make a beach bag with it. I will still have lots of it left over though.

Any other ideas of what to do with it? I really like the pattern.

Aha! I found a few links, it is for draperies, or home decorating!

It says "drapery cotton"

It sounds like Home Dec fabric and it is dry clean only because a lot of the Home Dec fabric is treated to help repel dirt and water a bit. If you wash it , the treatment will go away.

You could wash a small piece to make sure that it doesnt shrink to nothing... then

I would make great throw pillows, Tote bags, or maybe a Quillow to take to the beach...
