Hi All,

Can you help!

Is the bleached cotton muslin from Fabric.com thick enough to be used as a backing fabric.... or a whole quilt top?

Over in the UK Muslin is a fery fine sheer fabric and I wondered if this is the same.

Muslin here does not have a sheen, it is the same or a little heavier than most quilting cotton. I use it for backings and am very happy with it.

I use it for backing too, but I buy a better quality one. I just go to JoAnnes here, and they have several types. The really cheap stuff is so see through, it wouldnt wear well, but the more expensive stuff works great!

fabric.com also has a very good muslin in 110" wide so you don't even have to piece your back...it is very good.

You should know that when you order American muslin, is will be a natural or white color only. Just thought you would like to know.

The heavier muslin at Joann's is by brand Kona and if you wash before quilting it winkles & is hard to press, also hard to hand quilt . I like Moda Muslin the best, you can buy online at Hancocks of Paducah.
