Cotton/Poly Gingham - What do you do with it?

I am cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room. I came across this bundle of cotton/poly gingham and I don't know what to do with it! I have several yards of the different colors. I am at a loss as to whether I should keep it or not. What do you use cotton/poly gingham for?

Cute for bed skirts - I just hem it on all sides and then tuck it between the mattresses. Leave it longer than you need so you have enough fabric to tuck in. You can gather it by just pushing more fabric together or leave it boxed. You can change it easily if you change quilts on the bed. I use this in my guest bedroom because I like to change the quilts often and hate the bed skirts that require you to lift the whole mattress to remove. I use this method for my bedroom also.

Someone posted a picture of a chicken scratch quilt, it was great. I think a quilt made of different chicken scratch designs would be pretty. Chicken scratch is where you use embroidery floss to stitch on the gingham squares to form patterns like hearts, stars etc.

This looks like you might have enough for quilt backings. One of the problems with poly cotton is it likes to pill and beard when used in a quilt. I had some seersucker that I serged for quilt tops to be given to the Lutheran Mission Quilt project. If you decide not to keep it, donating to a church for mission quilts would be a good alternative.

It is gorgeous (I'm drooling on my keyboard :-P) I can see oodles of children's quilts made out of and backed with it!

I have done lots of chicken scratch on gingham, a number of gingham quilts , my favorite is a pleat and tuck baby quilt, using the 1 " gingham. ( 1 " gingham is SO hard to find... and when I do it is usually red.. which is a nice color.. but I love more variety.)

All of those colors would make such happy quilts when you put them together.

make children's quilts and don't worry about it being poly/cotton unless someone else doesn't like them.
The wear like iron cloth, wash up beautifully and snuggle comfortably..... I have an old directions where the checked poly/cotton was made with just two layers of fabri with batting, edge finished in prairie points, and then turned and tied. It's almost a one day quilt and oh so comfortable and usable I even published one in a magazine many years ago |

My aunt made a quilt of out hand-stamped embroidered blocks - all cotton - and sashed with poly/cotton fabric which included gingham and I now own it - THRILLED - as she passed away - it is on my bed at all times and gets washed several times a year and it is still in perfect shape. There is some pilling on the backing - but don't really know what it is - just white fabric.
