Cotton Sateen

I am looking at getting a design printed over at spoonflower on cotton sateen (it's a picture and I would like it printed all on one piece), but I was wondering about the fabric itself. 2 questions:

1. Is this a decent fabric to quilt with?

2. Would it look/feel odd to combine this with a regular cotton for the borders and backing?

Thanks so much for the help!

Why don't you order a sample? For one dollar, they will send you a packet with samples of every fabric they offer.

I work for a large linen company have done for years , I used sateen cotton in my quilts,it means the fabric has been woven 4 threads over 1 instead of 1 over 1 , I find it very soft and smooth they have usually started with a longer and stronger fibre for sateen .

Sateen is on my list to use. I have seen award winning quilters say they love it. And that it is "just beautiful" for backing.

Cotton sateen is a beautiful fabric

Ok, but how well does it work combining the sateen with regular cotton?

I'm a rebel, I'll combine anything: flannels, cotton, wool, old shirts, faux fur, satin. It just depends on you. Always do some test stitching. But, I would think quality quilting cotton and sateen would go together well. :)

I use sateen often, I've dyed it and printed on it, just remember, it has a nap and if all the pieces aren't oriented the same it will look like different shades, I guess it's the way the light reflects. It blends fine with regular cotton, it's just a wee bit heavier. I LOVE IT.

Thanks so much guys! This is the photo I am going to print on the sateen, so I don't think some of the concerns about color with the light will matter much. I think I will probably wait until that gets here and then find a good fabric to match!

The first time I saw cotton sateen at my LQS, I fell in love with it and bought 10 yards. It was black, and the next time I went in, she had a cream, so I bought 10 yards of it. It is wonderful for applique backgrounds. I also use both the right and wrong sides of the fabric for contrast.
