cotton thread

Have any of you used Essential Cotton thread from Connecting Threads? They are having an awesome sale. I am needing some odd colors to do some topstitching but I don't want to buy a bunch without hearing your thoughts on it.

Love it here too. My Brother machine runs so well with it

SandyinZ4 10-22-2012 07:32 PM

I use it a lot. I do clean out my bobbin case after about every 3rd bobbin though to get all the lint out. Not sure if it is from the thread, my fabric or just stuff floating in the air. (???cat hair???) I do love CT's colors and have never had a problem with any of their products.

I love it as well!! It use it almost exclusively and haven't had any trouble with it.

Ruby the Quilter 10-22-2012 09:06 PM

Definitely good thread.

Nanamoms 10-22-2012 09:44 PM

I know I've read this in other posts but can't remember!! Is the cotton thread from there a fine thin thread. I have been trying to find a fine thin cotton thread because the Gutterman and Mettler I have is a really thick thread. It is working okay in my Brother machine but the Gutterman is definitely linty and my Singer 160 isn't fond of it.

I have a lot of embroidery thread which is a 40wt poly but don't I need a different weight for piecing?

Thanks for your help in jogging my "lazy" brain tonight!

It's all I use now! I LOVE it and it works well in my Brother, too. I just got their brochure and didn't see a sale on threads, still $2.49 for 1200 yards, which is a great price anyway, except when you buy a set, it's cheaper. The colors are fantastic and I love the fact they show coordinated colors with fabrics. BTW, I just received an order of several of the new Shimmering Frost fabrics by Jenni Calo, and I LOVE IT!! I have always loved the fabrics I buy from them.

Nanamoms, Aurifil 50wt 2-ply (orange spools) is a fine cotton thread that I love for piecing. It is very smooth and not linty. Great for accurate piecing, and I also love it for quilting on my domestic machine. It seems expensive, but actually a spool lasts a long time because there is more on the spool (and you don't have to change the bobbin as often, because a lot more thread fits on the bobbin). If you try a spool, I think you will be hooked.

Connecting thread is not fine or thin, but it lays beautifully on the fabric and the colors are wonderful. My Janome "smiles" when I quilt with it.

I love their thread! And my Janome seems to like it very well also. Santa is bringing me quite a bit of their thread. LOL!! And he is also bringing me 3 of their cases to store it in. :)

roadrunr 10-23-2012 04:55 AM

I also use their thread and find it to be good qualtiy. JAlthough it is a little linty, it is not as linty as coats & clark or other cotton thread. Just remeber to clean out the bobbin area and under the throat plate every so often and you'll be good to go. And the price is really good, especially when it's on sale (that's when I stock up).

ragquilter 10-23-2012 05:46 AM

I use it and all my machines like it. I buy the collections when they have a 40% off sale because I make clothes too and it is an easy cheaper way to build a good color selection. I also like their storage cases, I buy when they are on sale. Plus if you spend $50 you get free shipping.

Buckeye Rose 10-23-2012 07:05 AM

I use it for quilting all the time, and piecing if I need a specific color.....it works great on my 6600, but is a little linty, requiring me to clean a bit more (not a bad thing).....love the availability of so many different colors!

I have, and it was my favorite thread until someone on the board recommended Aurifil. Good as CT cotton thread is, Aurifil is less linty in my machines - Pfaffs. I clean the bobbin case (and everything else in my machine that I can reach) when I change bobbins. BUT I know lint also gets into the machine where I CAN'T reach. That's why I take my machine to the dealer once a year to have his people clean it & do anything else that's needs doing. You'd be surprised if you could see how much lint gets in there!

susie-susie-susie 10-23-2012 07:57 AM

I love it. It is a little more linty, but I don't see that as a problem. I just clean the bobbin area more often. The price is very reasonable especially when it is on sale. I just got my new catalogue and it doesn't seem to be on sale. I have gotten it cheaper than $2.74. It lasts forever.

never a problem.....and cant beat the price!

CT thread is the same as Star thread. Not good for our machines and is so thick it takes up room in the seams which can throw off accuracy. CT has another thread Essential Pro which is a better choice.
