I was reading here about using fleece for the backing and people were saying its not good because it stretches when sewing.............but i was wondering if i could use the fleece as the batting? Would it stretch out when sewing this way? TIA

I used fleece for batting inside of my Christmas Tree Skirt ~ it worked great, just had to make sure to start in the middle (hole for tree) and work outward... it did stretch a little, but I kept-a-smoothin' and it worked fine. Drapes really nice, too. Used it in a small lap quilt for kids, they say its super duper warm, but its heavier than all my other quilts.

I would not recommend it for use in anything more than a lap-size quilt because of the weight.

Why not just use poly batting? Fleece is stretchy poly stuff. At least poly batting will behave.

I have used fleece in a couple small, lap sized quilts. I used the basting spray to sandwich it together and a few pins for extra holding. I didn't have any trouble with stretching. But I did use a mid-priced fleece. The really cheap fleece stretches quite a bit.

I put fleece in my Spiral tablerunner and I love it.

I just used fleece as backing in the wheelchair quilt, bought it at Walmart. I didn"t have any problem with stretching at all. In fact, I thought it was great to work with!!

I've done it and it works fine. I've also used fleece as backing but ONLY if the blanket is tied rather than quilted. You can use it for backing and quilt it as long as you use some type of stretch stitch as your quilting stitch. I had some fabric that Jeeps on it and used just a length of it, backed it with fleece, tied it and made a wonderfully warm car blanket to carry in my Jeep. Used it at a church cook out one evening, loaned it to a visitor that was traveling through and she took it with her when she left. She must have really liked it.
