Wonderful that she wants to join you in sewing and quilting! She did great on the bag! :)

quiltyfeelings 10-14-2011 09:58 AM

If she is that much of a "regular" at the LQS, would they be willing to help her "sell" her goods? For example, if she could make some samples for their patterns, they would sell the patterns and they could "pay" her with fabric. A LQS here does that, and the items are always marked with a tag that says, "This bag was made by Sasha, a local 12 year old. Sasha's bag and the pattern are available for purchase." This LQS even hangs up photography and painted canvases by local kids, again all are marked with a tag that reads, "this art is made by Tommy, a local 14 year old."

You are blessed! I tried to teach my daughter to sew when she was younger- now she's 33. She wouldn't know how to thread a needle, I'm embarrassed to say- she isn't interested.

QUILTNMO 10-14-2011 10:57 AM

beautiful bag and beautiful daughter

I would be so excited if my daughter and daughter in laws would quilt with me. I'd happily share my stash with them.
I hope you will encourage her. It looks like she is on a roll.

girlsfour 10-15-2011 02:34 AM

Darling picture - she's so proud. Good for her. She will use her sewing skills all her life.

Pieces2 10-15-2011 02:39 AM

I would welcome her to the world of quilting.
Be glad she shows an interest in sewing.
Think of all the shared projects you can do together. :D

piepatch 10-15-2011 02:44 AM

Your daughter is a cutie, and she did a great job on her bags. It is so special that she shares your interests. You two will have a lot of fun in the future, even if you have to share your stash!

Mona Lisa 2011 10-15-2011 02:54 AM

Oh..............definately sell her to the Gypies. Then buy more fabric.

SandySews 10-15-2011 03:02 AM

Great!!! She will be branching out into other projects for sure if the bug bit her good. And only 12. The sky is the limit for her....... You are blessed!!!!

MY grandniece began sewing here at my home this summer. This was major danger for my stash. Since school started I have begun going to her home for the lessons. Now my stash is safe...She now proudly has begun her own stash. Your DD looks like she is proud enough to burst!

Ed 10-15-2011 03:24 AM

She bib a nice job on her bag. Good luck on keeping your stash.

She is very cute and did a great job on the bag. She will need a job soon to help replenish the stash :)

Wish I had a daughter to share with! Tried with oldest GD but she has now turned to cheerleading!

DeeBooper 10-15-2011 03:55 AM

that is so great to have your daughter sew with you....wish mine did!

taylorsgmom 10-15-2011 03:58 AM

I understand completely. Went to MN this summer to visit inlaws. Met my great niece and a quilter was born. I even got my sister in law bitten by the bug.

SunlitenSmiles 10-15-2011 04:02 AM

my daughter recieved her first SINGER sewing machine from santa at age four and nine months, went straight to where the fabric she wanted (yes, in what was my stash) was stored and had a doll bed pillow case made and the sheet cut out and ready for hemming before breakfast. That was more than fifty years ago and we have basically shared fabric all these years. Fortunatly she has always lived close, and now we go on quilt runs together and she drives.

Sharing stash is a good thing!!!

My 12 yo daughter has been bit by the quilting bug and is actually using fabric from my stash. She actually made me cut up some of my prettys so she could make bags. She started sewing in August and now asks only a weekly basis to go to LQS or just goes down and picks which ones she wants to use for her current bag project.

How does a house deal with 2 fabricholics? I'm not sure my budget will like it, I know its not the end of the world but she wants me to cut my fabric.

Seriously, her bags are great and she is going to be starting her first lap quilt today.

You know, I have a solution to the problem. I could adopt your DD! She could share my stash and it would be years before we got to the end of it

Seriously, isn't it wonderful to have a daughter who shares your passion? I am sure you enjoy her. She did a wonderful job on the bag.

toadmomma 10-15-2011 04:35 AM

You are sooo lucky be happy that she is so much like you, what a wonderful thing to have found something you are both interested in , you will never be lonely for some to understand and enjoy you hobby with that will last throughout your lives and you have started a new generation to carry on. You could give her your scrap and let her create. Her bags are darling

nhweaver 10-15-2011 04:43 AM

Your daughter is very creative, wow!!! Love the bag. Give her an attagirl for me and welcome her to our world of quilting.

If you are worried about your stash, take her on a thrift store hunt. I have seen beautiful bags made from re cycled coats, costumes, drapes that started out in a thrift store.

Let her imagination run wild!!!

My daughter also has the quilting bug. One day she took my entire stash and organized it in her room. Now I just go and get what I want from her room.

She has finished 3 quilts. I'm still working on number one.

Yes she did ask Santa for a long arm and was disappointed when it was not under or next to the tree.

SandyMac 10-15-2011 04:47 AM

Oooooh both are so cute.Tell her she is doing a great job.

SueDor 10-15-2011 04:48 AM

Like mother, like daughter. Monkey see, monkey do!
It's great! Enjoy her company now. There maybe a time that she won't want your company!

Stitcher317 10-15-2011 04:53 AM

WOW - Another day, another avid quilter....nice....this is how it all starts. Cutie pie.....

quilted dakota 10-15-2011 04:54 AM

wow, very nice job and only 12. . .you must be very proud of her.

snipforfun 10-15-2011 04:57 AM

Sewing will keep her out of trouble when she becomes a teenager. Keep encouraging her.

Mary T. 10-15-2011 04:59 AM

This is how we pass it on! My daughter ( now 33) started at age 12 and she knows that my stash is part of her inheritance!!!!

What a Joy to be able to share both your sewing craft and most of all time with your precious daughter. WOW the memories you two are creating. They will only get better from here. I am jealous...enjoy sharing your stash and count your blessing! My daughter doesn't have even the slightest iterest....I keep hoping.

quilts4charity 10-15-2011 05:05 AM

Hmmm...a dilemma for sure but a good one!!! I love having my daughters come over to help me sew...of course they don't live here. She looks like she is doing a great job...musta had a great teacher!!!!

cdufur 10-15-2011 05:14 AM

Cute bag!!

Cybrarian 10-15-2011 05:22 AM

Lots of great suggestions here for how to help your daughter develop her talent, & gain organizational & merchandizing skills. What I want to let you know is (I teach middle/high school students) this is such a valuable part Of her life! Especially middle, but high school too has some rough aspects and difficult experiences as our kids grow up. Having something like this that allows her to express herself, give her self confidence and a place of comfort and time to think and regroup is so valuable. She is so fortunate to discover this for herself and have such an encouraging mom. This will give you 2 a connection and common ground you both will cherish. How awesome!

janiesews 10-15-2011 05:31 AM

How nice! Love the picture of your daughter and her cute bag.

sunrise450 10-15-2011 05:44 AM

I envy you! I can't get my girls interested in quilting let alone sewing. One has started to crochet so maybe there is hope there.

She's adorable-- and so is the bag! It's only fabric. Let her cut it up and then you can BOTH go shopping.

EmiliasNana 10-15-2011 06:05 AM

What wonderful memories you are building.........and a proud time for both of you. She did a fabulous job.

KyKaren1949 10-15-2011 06:11 AM

I love that! SHe sure is a cutie and so is her bag! How fun that you two enjoy doing the same thing. My daughter could care less about quilts or sewing. Now, my grandson is fascinated by my fabric. Maybe he'll be a quilter!!
