Could someone help me find the McCall's pattern this is adapted from.

I'd like the full yardages required & to see if there are strip piecing instructions.

Send the blogger an email and ask. Bloggers always read their emails from their blog.

nanac 03-02-2014 08:52 AM

Don't know the name, but it is a great quilt. hope someone else has the answer for you :)

PurplePassion 03-02-2014 08:53 AM

This is made from scraps, so there might not be yardage amounts.

RedGarnet222 03-02-2014 09:00 AM

It is basically just a scrap quilt made with a four patch and a snowball block joined together. The four patch looks like it could be 2 1/2 " squares while the snow ball is 8 1/2 " x 2 1/2 " white block with the stones added to the corners using a diagonal seam. Then they are altered to make the pattern. a strip of scrap 2 1/2" blocks sashing to make the design. Make sense? Look close at it. I can't see a repeat to indicate strip piecing.

After reading the sizes she suggests, I am thinking she made the half snowball squares and then added a plain white block to make up the shortness inside block. But, I can't understand why you need an extra step in there.

sandyquilts 03-02-2014 10:04 AM

She says she originally saw it in a McCall's magazine and that she redrafted it. I'd write to her and ask which issue.

Prism99 03-02-2014 10:48 AM

I would just draw it out on graph paper. She shows the 3 blocks, each of which is pretty easy to figure out. (1) The four-patch is straight-forward. (2) You could make strip sets of 3 and 4 to make the framed square block, but then it won't be as scrappy as hers. (3) The snowball block can be made from a rectangle with four smaller squares sewn on the corners. She gives the dimensions for the square and rectangle shapes, so I would think it would be pretty easy to draft on graph paper. It's a little more work to figure out yardages, but really not that difficult to work out.

I have this pattern.
I could scan it and e-mail it to you if I had your address.

I believe that violates copyright laws.

nannykins8 03-02-2014 11:50 AM

Don't want to do that. McCall's Quilting August 2000 is the magazine date.

Onebyone 03-02-2014 12:52 PM

You could send her the magazine and then she could send it back to you. It will probably be hard to find that old an issue for sale.

Prism99 03-02-2014 01:00 PM

There are several copies of the magazine for sale on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

and also several available on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/McCalls-Quilti...dp/B003PXSVBY/

nannykins8 03-02-2014 01:01 PM

I don't have the whole magazine, just the two pages. And if I had an address, I could send those along, hoping not to violate copywrite rules.

That's legal, thank goodness!

There was an earlier post here on the Board about this pattern. It is called Lovers Link. Check that out. It might help.

nannykins8 03-02-2014 01:34 PM

June 29, 2011 is the post date.

Cass62 03-02-2014 01:41 PM

This is very, very similar to "Katie's Quilt" which Jenny Doan adapted using pre-cuts. Try this link and see if that helps:

Peckish 03-02-2014 01:47 PM

Looks very similar to "Chicken Feed" by Carrie Nelson. PDF is available for purchase and immediate download here: http://www.missrosiesquiltco.bigcart...eed-pdf-no-478

ragamuffin 03-02-2014 03:29 PM

She called it the Shuttle pattern in her instructions.

Mdegenhart 03-03-2014 03:46 AM

Thank you all so much for your help. It is the 2000 pattern as I emailed her & she told me it was 12 or 13 year old issue & lovers links. I messaged Nanny. I have the equivalent of about 30 fat eighths left from a fat quarter bundle that I think will work well for this.

nannykins8 03-03-2014 05:17 AM

On its way.

Mdegenhart 03-03-2014 05:24 AM

Thank you so much!

I thought this pattern looked familiar. I looked through my pattern folder and found it. It was a free hand out. The date is 2011 and the name of the pattern is Star Crossed. Very same pattern.

Your local library - McCalls is a popular quilt book

MargeD 03-03-2014 11:51 AM

You might check the McCall's website, it may be a free pattern.

Violating copyright laws?

On Ebay, some person sells patterns torn from her magazines to the public. I wondered if that was against copyright laws. Anyone know the answer. Can't see how it would be if you gave your friend a pattern from your quilting magazine. I don't believe that making money (on Ebay) using someone else's design.

Letty 03-04-2014 09:46 AM

I guess all the instructions are there for a scrappy quilt, relax and enjoy.xx

It's perfectly legal to do that, as it is the original printing. This is also why you can sell used magazines and used books. What is illegal is making a copy and selling the copy.

Well, you just did by posting to it. It should now be one of your "Quick Links" in the toolbar near the top of the page.
