I agree with Laceybritt on the patterns for a country quilt. And as others said the more traditional patterns. There are many sites on-line that give instructions for many different blocks.

In our neck of the woods, it is one with chickens and chooks and wheat sheaths, windmills and barns. The odd goose and dog or scarecrow is generally there as well as cats and mice, sunflowers and perhaps a horse.

a Sampler would be nice, but any traditional blocks would be nice. Would sure set down with her about colors and what she is thinking.....country to some one thing, others, something totality different.

It would be a great idea to pick out a couple of country patterns and have her pick one out and I would also take her to the fabric store to pick out her own shades unless you would like to surprise her with the pattern and shades.

When I think of country I think of the north star block. It is such a pretty pattern and very country.

look at the cover of connecting threads new catalog or look online @ their "starry splendor" lap quilt . definitely a "country beauty"!

Have a look at this site:
http://www.amishcountrylanes.com/Pages/index.shtml

They have a "tour" of the different quilts, it's a great way to see different patterns, and even how different the same pattern looks with different fabric treatments. And they are all "country" style.

Thimbleberries would be my choice - Lynette Jennings has some great patterns
