Soft books.....if you look in the fabric section that has the cut out things, some will have things like stockings and such, you can find these long panels. You take 2 of the panels, after you cut them out, put a piece of batting in there, sew around it and voila, you have a book. I have pictures of them posted here.... http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/12737.page
Just scroll down, you will find them.

A local quilt store had some but they were pretty pricey. I think they cost more than you were able to sell them for. I'd be glad to go back there or contact them.

tlrnhi 11-02-2008 02:02 PM

LQS's are a bit pricey on the books. A friend of mine went and priced them for me and they were asking $10/panel. I paid $5.99/panel, which was much better. lol
I'm hoping to get to Ben Franklins this week and tear apart the Christmas table and see if there are any hiding there. I'll buy what they have, if any and stash them away for later. I know they won't go on sale here, but that's ok, I can deal with the price they want.
I will most likely be looking at some sites to see what will be going on sale for Christmasy stuff, maybe something else like the books will catch my eye.

Congratulations!

quiltnana 11-02-2008 04:01 PM

Terri you just crack me up...I love your story about the lady down from you. I'm so glad you did great and that you raised so much money for a good cause. Rest up and start sewing for next year...lol

CissyQuilts 11-02-2008 04:56 PM

Congratulations on a successful day, Terri!! You definitely earned your money. :D

Bernadette Harwood 11-03-2008 01:14 PM

You did great. I find quilts don't sell well at the sales, they can't be laid out and people are looking for lower price items so they get more items, gifts for their money. Great sale, happy for you, Bernadette

WesternWilson 11-03-2008 01:49 PM

Since the mice were your big seller, can you post a photo or description of them?

Thanks!
Janet

I'm so glad your sale went good CONGRATS to you :)

reneebobby 11-04-2008 04:35 AM

Great job Terri. Glad you made good money for yourself and a good cause.

MelissaK 11-04-2008 05:57 AM

Congratulations! Sorry about the mean woman! Have you thought about putting your stuff on ETSY to sell some things for your super secret trip?
I'm not sure how much it is to ship things out of Guam, but it might be something you can do in the mean time while waiting for your next craft fair and maybe you can sell some of those totes!

tlrnhi 11-04-2008 06:05 AM

Thanks!
Yea, that mean woman will get hers, know what I mean?

I've thought about it, but not going to do it. I have a couple orders from friends, so I can sell them that way. I'm not in an all fire hurry. If I sell them, I sell them, if not, they'll go for Christmas gifts. :)

Bevanger 11-04-2008 06:58 AM

wow! that is awesome hun... oh i hope they pick you to ride in the plane..... better you then me. scared of heights. lol

triciasquilts 11-04-2008 09:28 AM

Terri, I'm so glad you had a successful day. I had about 5 other quilters at the show I just did and they kept wondering over to my tables to see why I was so busy!!! I just loved it. Kept asking me how I was doing. I always said its been wonderful so far. Don't feel bad about the totes, I didn't sell any of mine either. Which I thought was weird, cause I always sell a couple.
So glad your organization raised lots of $$$$. Thats always a great feeling. Congrats.

Elizabeth A. 11-04-2008 10:08 AM

Good for you Terri, glad you had a great day (execpt for the annoying lady of course, there's one in every crowd I'm sure), good luck collecting all the money you need for your getaway. When will you know if you were a top contributer?

sewaholic 11-04-2008 08:30 PM

So happy for you that your stall was a success, so sad that you had a tote stolen.

tlrnhi 11-04-2008 08:32 PM

Thanks all..
Not sure when we find out if we are the top contributors. I'm about 90% sure that we are since last year, it was $5000 that was the top, and gee...GNOSC were the ones. lol Go figure, huh? Leave it to a group of women to be top people! lol

kd124 11-04-2008 10:12 PM

Congrats Terri. So glad you did well. Can't believe your totes didn't go.

Barb M 11-04-2008 11:56 PM

Oh Terri, sounds like your craft day went awesome!!! :) :) :)

Jannie 11-05-2008 01:29 PM

I would love to see a picture of 1 of your mouse(s). Not sure what you were talking about.

mary quite contrary 11-05-2008 01:54 PM

I'm praying you are one that gets to go for an AIRPLANE RIDE!!!!!!

Quilting Aggi 11-05-2008 03:19 PM

That is FABULUOUS news Terri!! Sounds like you had a wonderful day despite the cranky puss a couple tables down from you.. She was just jealous!!! I laughed out loud when you said one lady left your table, went to hers and came back to yours and bought the book!!! Looks good on her!!!

sorry about the missing tote bag though.. that really sucks. It possibly was hers, and her way to get back at ya..

Maybe next year I'll try my hand at a craft fair.

tlrnhi 11-05-2008 04:12 PM

Thanks Aggi.
It just irks me that it came up missing. It's not like the fabric could blend in anywhere and I wouldn't notice it if I saw her out in town. It's one of the purple/grape ones.
Oh well....I guess she just liked me so much, she had to have something to remember me by. What goes around comes around, right? lol

Carol W 11-07-2008 09:07 AM

Good for you!!

Congratulations!!!

Jeannie 11-07-2008 09:32 AM

what kind of soft sided book did you make? I have a 1 yr old grandchild and I would like to do something like that for her.

quilterpat 11-07-2008 11:29 AM

Congrats on the great sales at the craft fair. I get the books at Walmart and they are about $4 a panel. I have made a number of them for my grandson. They are really nice. Again GREAT JOB

sharon b 11-07-2008 01:54 PM

I just found this post, so CONGRATS ! Terri. So happy that you did well ! :D Not sure why your totes didn't sell except for the one that disappeared(?) :? . I love them. And now you have a year to get ready for the next one.

Jeannie...if you go into Walmart or any fabric store (don't think LQSs would have them), there are panels you can buy that you sew together that make books.

Grandma Cindy 11-07-2008 10:31 PM

did you use felt or foam for the mice? How great you did so well........

Grandma Cindy 11-07-2008 10:34 PM

can the soft books be of any topic? I love being on a quest while shopping and I will keep my eyes open and let you know.......

tlrnhi 11-08-2008 03:17 AM

Thanks! The mice were made of felt. I tried some thicker type felt stuff, but it wasn't the same.

Yes, please keep a lookout and let me know

sharon b 11-08-2008 08:43 AM

Terri my Walmart has some of the soft books, one has the colors with different languages and the other is religous (spelling?) I think. Both were 4.44 a panel. Let me know if they interest you.
