Craftsy classes?

Has anyone taken a class from Craftsy. A local guild is having a teacher that also has classes on Craftsy. I am wondering if the "in person" class would be better than an online one that you could watch whenever you wanted to.

The Craftsy classes are great. One of the nice things is that you can have contact with the teacher for feedback but the best thing is that once you buy them, they belong to you. No time limit, you can watch them as much as you want. This also includes the free ones. If you don't like a class they'll refund you.

I have enjoyed many of the Craftsy classes, but a live class taught by a real professional is a whole different experience. I would definitely take the class in person.

ManiacQuilter2 03-14-2016 07:31 AM

I haven't taken a class from Craftsy but I prefer the "in person" experience. I also meet a lot of neat quilters in classes I have taken. You really don't meet anyone new taking a class online.

I have taken 2 free classes and love them. I work full-time and love the flexibility of being able to view them at any time.... for as many times as I need.

I have taken crafty classes that have worked well for me- since I work nights it is difficult to catch an in person class.the classes are well done. I Love managing to go to classes/ workshops our guild hosts though-- it is always great to have the real person instead of a video and questions, interaction are personal and immediate. Even if I take 10 Genny Beyer classes on crafty, if she came to town I would do what ever I could to go. ( or any other teacher who I enjoy )

Craftsy classes are great! I've definitely a lot learned from them. Because of limited mobility, I can't sit through live classes very easily so I appreciate the opportunity to take them online at my own speed. However, as Judy explained, it is really nice to get feedback from a live instructor & to be able to ask back-and-forth questions during a workshop. Also, if I can't see the detail on something, at a workshop I can go up or ask for the item to be passed around. Craftsy videos are excellent & usually they provide enough close-ups, but not always.

If I had the opportunity to take both (Craftsy classes go on sale from time to time, usually around holidays & Easter is coming up), I'd do both. If I had to pick one & was physically able to attend the workshop, I'd pick the workshop.

I've taken 4 classes so far - two with Angela Walters and two photography classes. Love, love, LOVE that I can go back and look at the lessons any time I want. And, believe me, I have! You can't do that with an in-person class. Plus, I didn't have anyone asking to borrow my tools, asking "What did she mean by that?", or distracting me in general. Having the teacher available to ask questions is great. I don't feel like everyone is rolling their eyes at me when I ask a question! Yep, I'll take one of these classes anytime over an in-person class. It feels like I'm their only student, one-on-one.

I have signed up for a boat-load of craftsy classes and had mostly good experiences. Who is the teacher?

The nice thing about craftsy is that you can watch and re-watch the lesson however often you need to. With a in-person class, once the time is up and you go home, all you can count on is your memory and notes.

I've taken a Craftsy class with an instructor that did a workshop for our guild - Well worth both - in my case, it was Jacqui Gehring.

Love their classes! I love that I can make notes and when I return I can click where I left the note and read it.

I have taken several Craftsy classes and love them. I like being able to go back to them over and over. I have asked a few questions of the instructors and have gotten quick responses. You can adjust the speed of the class. This works great for the occasional instructor who speaks very slowly and also when you are reviewing the class. I hope no one from Craftsy is looking here, but NEVER buy a class full price, as they frequently have sales, often 50% off.

I also have taken classes at LQS and at AQS shows and enjoyed them too. Fact is, I have taken a class at a show because of a Craftsy class. Loved the instructor (Cindy Needham).

I always prefer an in-person teacher and the experience of learning with others, but do have a couple of Craftsy classes and like what I saw--but how the heck do you find them again? I've logged in to the site that allows you to purchase them but can't get to my classes??? Help please!

When you log in click the small arrow by your picture (or avatar) and select "My Classes." Then just click on the class you want to watch again.

I have taken a number of Craftsy classes. They enable me to watch and question good quilters from US. If I go to a class you have to go at the speed of the slowest in the room, which means if you finish a section quickly you have to wait.

quilterpurpledog 03-15-2016 03:36 AM

Love Craftsy. Learn on my own time schedule. Prefer them to 'classroom settings'. The last one I went to was just a platform to sell products. I did not appreciate that.

Watson 03-15-2016 04:13 AM

I've taken about 5 Craftsy classes. 4 of them were great and the 5th less so. They offer a refund if you don't like the class and they were true to their word. I asked to return the class and they refunded my Paypal the same day. So, my point is, you've got nothing to lose by trying.

I have signed up for Craftsy classes after taking the classroom class. Why choose, do both!

This is the way, and when you are looking at classes, it'll have a banner over the ones saying you are enrolled already. I like that, you forget especially with the free ones.

I have purchased several Craftsy classes and have never been disappointed. I think you should take the "live" class. I took a hands-on class with Leah Day last spring and I still enjoyed it even though I have purchased her Craftsy tutorials. IMO, it is fun to take classes with others who enjoy the same craft but do things differently.

Wholeheart Mom 03-16-2016 03:07 AM

Okay, I admit it.... I am a Craftsy junkie! I love their classes, almost too much. I have learned so much and grown immensely as a quilter. There is only a couple of classes that I didn't enjoy too much and I probably should have gotten a refund, but the 30 days had passed. All in all, I highly recommend the classes, but if you have the opportunity to attend in person, that would be an extra special experience, in my book!

quilttiger 03-16-2016 03:10 AM

Craftsy is great for two main reasons. 1) At my age, I have no desire to haul my machine, supplies and notions to classes. Then I have to put them away when I get home. 2) I happen to be hard of hearing and read lips. The classes are close captioned, and I don't miss anything!

duckydo 03-16-2016 04:59 AM

I have taken several of the Craftsy classes, they are great because they are always there anytime you need to return to them. That said, a hand on class is also wonderful. I always learn something new with every class I take . The Craftsy classes are also very reasonable.. If I may ask, who is teaching the class?

Reba'squilts 03-16-2016 05:03 AM

I have taken a couple of FMQ classes with Craftsy, got a lot out of them and can refer back. I also took a beginning FMQ at my local quilt store. I think I prefer the Craftsy because no one monopolizes the instructors time! I do learn a lot at the quilt shop, I just save all my questions and go in when it is not busy and ask away!! They are always nice to me! So I buy. This is the nature of a symbiotic relationship!!! lol

fivepaws 03-16-2016 06:32 AM

I have a multitude of Craftsy classes and each one is great. I save them and then can go back for review anytime I wish. Something one can not do in a live class.

dotcomdtcm 03-16-2016 06:36 AM

I took the free BOM from Amy Gibson on Craftsy in 2012. Since then, Amy is a continual inspiration. Her new 2016 sampler is free. Excellent instructions!

Wanabee Quiltin 03-16-2016 06:37 AM

I have taken three classes and really enjoyed them. I like quiet when I am learning anything, I can watch it over and over, I can stop it at anytime, I pick teachers who are very good at what they do etc.....

kat13 03-16-2016 10:55 AM

I have taken many since there are no classes offered anywhere near me and I highly recommend them, there was one I didn't like and I could exchange for another or get a refund no questions asked.

klswift 03-16-2016 10:56 AM

I have many craftsy classes on my computer. They will be there forever to look at! But, wait until they are half price. If you sign up for one and realize you made a mistake, they are great about refunds. I needed to do some major alterations for my daughter and figured I could use a refresher course on alterations. I was absolutely amazed with all the new tricks I learned from the course. Saved me a tremendous amount of work and my daughter a huge amount on a new wardrobe!

rryder 03-16-2016 02:19 PM

I love Craftsy classes. I like being able to watch them at my own speed and on my own schedule--and they fit my budget.

I have taken several classes on Craftsy, 4 BOM that were free and 3 others that I paid for and I have always been happy with the classes, especially since I can repeat any section I have trouble with.
