I saw one today at a flea market and was thinking of buying it but it didn't come with a foot control (so I would have to order that as well as a manual)

What are your thoughts on the Singer 774 sewing machine. It also has a case.

Something to think about- without a foot control can you test it to see if it works ? I know nothing about the machine so no help there , sorry

I know that was the scary part, couldn't test drive it

Without a controller, I don't think I would buy it...I think that it is a good machine, but it could have gear problems or be out of time...
Go to the singer site and see if you can see what's what..

This is a model I probably wouldn't purchase, especially without a foot controller. It is the Stylist, and I think has plastic gears. It could be okay, but there are better vintage machines in the same price range.

ok, thanks Everyone!

One of the gals at my sewing class had one and she liked it. I sold them at a singer store while my husband was in college (mid 70's). They were one of the first ones that had the nylon gears. So if it was stored properly, it might be worth buying. But it's tough decision without trying it.
