I read on here the other day about using Crayolas for marking your quilts.
But, I can't remember if it was washable crayons or
washable markers. Markers sounds right but just not sure.
Thanks

Crayola washable markers.

Warning~~~~do a test swatch before you mark your quilt. Make sure they will wash out. Also check if using your iron makes a difference. I'm in the test stage myself. Let us know how it goes!

Crayola markers are non-toxic but they don't wash out of everything. I would use some other way to mark a quilt.

My DGD wrote all over one of her shirts with Crayola washable markers. Told her mother she wanted to test them. They didn't wash out and ruined the shirt. Needless to say my DDIL was just a little bit unhappy  :x :!:

Definitely test on scraps first.

I also would like to know how it works.

It probably depends on the fabric, and the way you wash it also. I used them on a small 100% cotton piece that I was practicing fmq on and it came out totally. I wouldn't press a quilt after it was marked with anything. I only use them on things for me and things that are for practice.

I don't know, but I would be careful with any dark color.

It's the yellow one, turns brown!

Please please please heed the warning.

I tested the crayola washable markers on a variety of fabrics and they did NOT wash out.

Mine washed out, but I totally agree to test them.

Promise?? I have 3 kids 6 and under. I have been wanting to make a quilt for myself, it's just not fair that all these other people get to be warm and cozy under my masterpieces and I'm not. LOL ANYWAY, The marker idea sounds like a fun one to let them decorate some squares for my quilt. If I let them color on them and then dry them w/o washing them first will it set the color?

I demonstrated the Crayola markers on one of the QuiltersTV show. I was marking batting to cut for trapunto. They were the only markers that would mark the batting. They washed out very well. However, when I tried it on muslin it took a bit of work to get it out but it did. I was just washing it by hand in a sink at a class. Might come out with washing in the machine. They do wash out but TEST first on the fabric you are using.

Thank you all. Don't think I will buy them.

I learned the hard way as a beginner to keep away from heat when a marker says washable. I use Crayola washable markers and use cool water and let it sit for a bit. So far I have had no problems.
