Crayola Washable Dry Erase Markers

Does anyone use these to mark your quilts ???? Is it better than the Frixon pens ????

I bought some and did some tests, I used several colors, lights and darks, made marks on white fabric, ironed 1/2 of each mark then let them sit around for a week. Then I thru them in the regular wash, every mark came out completely so when the time comes I will use them and not be afraid.

I haven't used the washable markers directly on the fabric when marking a quilting design, but use them all the time on either golden threads paper or sulky solvy to draw my designs. For any marker, it should be tested on every fabric in your quilt...it may come out of some and not all. Best to be on the safe side.

I have used them to trace around plastic templated for applique and they did seem to all wash out when done.

I did the same, then tryed it on a project, diffrent brand white fabric. It left a faint mark. Now before I use it, I test on a scrap of the fabric I am using.

I use to tell from DGD tee shirts which colors would wash out. Many didn't. The colors may have improved since then. I started using soap slivers to mark all darker fabrics. I am on the lookout for the darkest color soap I can find for the light fabrics. So far the dark green olive oil soap works pretty good. No worry at all about the marks using soap, it's cheap, and a bar will last almost forever.

Thanks for the tip. With stores selling school supplies on sale, I will have to get some for myself when I buy them for the kids.

I have used them and haven't had any problems. I like the frixion pens, too. I do use a sliver of soap on dark fabric though. I think because I use so much starch that by the time I'm ready to mark on the quilt top, I'm marking on the starch not the fabric .
