Crayon Question
 

OK. I bought Crayola Crayons, drew a heart and wrote a label in the corner of some cotton fabric. Covered it with parchment paper and ironed it well. Washed in hot water and all came out! Turned to Youtube. One said to wash in cold. I would want my work to be permanent. Any suggestions?

I also found these that say they’re best on 100% synthetic fabric. Maybe that’s why yours washed out.

The Ultra-clean washable crayons are meant to wash out. Could you have used those?

I use fabric crayons they have not washed out. I haven't seen any in stores in a long time though.

I use the micro permanent pens that are great for labels. Years ago I made a sweatshirt with the cutest pumpkins and black cats for Halloween thinking it would stay though the wash. Wrong.. Such a disappointment after so much work.

I have not had Crayola crayon pictures wash out of pre-washed cotton fabric after ironing, but it is always safe to test any media before doing a lot of work.

I use these on signature blocks. Most recently was a couple years ago for a baby quilt. According to mom the quilt is holding up well and even great grampa's signature is still there.,
I haven't used fabric crayons in a number of years and the crayola fabric crayons are what I used.

I've used Crayola crayons on dish towels that get tons of washing and haven't had an issue with them washing out. I've always set mine using paper towels. Perhaps it's the parchmnet paper that is part of the issue?

According to one of the links below, you only need to use the "fabric" crayons on synthetic or synthetic blends. Both say for cotton fabric and use paper towels. Maybe use parchment paper over and under the paper towels to prevent wax &/or color from getting on your ironing surface and iron.

I believe you need to use paper towels to absorb the wax but leave the color. I doubt parchment would absorb wax.
