Crazy Question
Do you tip your long armer? I haven’t in the past but with all the tipping discussions happening I thought I would ask.
|
I do because she doesn't charge enough IMHO.
|
No, she is a business, she does her job and gets paid for it.
|
I would think her price is her price. Tips have begun to be a difficult thing these days. Everyone is "give me", "give me", but the long armer gives a total price, so I"m sure she or he figures those things in.
|
I tried when I first went to her, she asked me not to.

I have 'rounded up' on occasion, especially if she made time to do my quilt on short notice. My sister has a wonderful longarmer (3 hour flight from me). I have sometimes taken tops with me when we visit and her longarmer was always very accommodating, getting them finished so quickly. I always gave her as much warning as possible but it was probably still an inconvenience for her.

I have never received tips. If she does a really nice job and you feel she underestimated, I think it would be nice, even if it is only $10. Longarm quilting tends to be a lot of work. More then people realize.

No, I don't tip my longarmer. She is running a business and includes her time, thread and skill. On the other hand, this holiday season she did a last minute quilt for me that I needed for a Christmas gift. She charged me for the job as usual but I felt a bit guilty taking her holiday time. I gave here a bouquet of fresh flowers and her response was "No one ever gives me flowers!" Note taken: this gal likes to be blessed with little gifts of appreciation.

I have customers that round up. I appreciate it.
|
no, it is a business and should charge as such. I don't tip the grocery owner, the gas station owner, the resturant owner, the salon owner.
|
I never have and to be honest never thought about it. She's fantastic. Maybe I will next time. Thanks for the reminder!

No. I don't get tipped for when I sit security (altho' I do it less now as I "have retired" from working). I have a uniform that I purchased including my duty boots, side arm and ammo as I am an armed guard. I have now gone to mostly camera security so I can sit in the air conditioned building rather than being outside in the heat. I work 5 days on - 5 days off works great as I can be home the 5 days off. My boss know NOT to call with an "emergency" position and she knows to leave a message as I normally do not answer the phone when I am off as I am deep in my flower garden (veggies during the summer and fall) as well.
When I sit, I take my current project and during my lunch hour I work on my newest quilt project. I have moved from the run-of-the-mill quilts to making original pattern quilts. I like doing my own patterns better as I know no-one else has the exact pattern. |
I think tipping has gotten out of hand. I tip when warranted, so am pretty generous when called for.
