Do you mean are we crazy or do we make crazy quilts? Some would think we are crazy for cutting up fabric into little pieces just to sew them back together again.

LOL I was going to add "or just crazy"!! LOL

I really enjoy doing crazy quilting. I have done just a little of it though. I just recently joined a group in my home town that meets once a month and we are going to be doing a round robin. I have never done one before and I am really excited about it.

Each woman make her own block 12 1/2" Square with a 2" muslin border and embroiders the center. Then it goes to each person to work on. Each woman will get her own block back with other women's work on her block. I think that is just so neat. We start next month bringing in our blocks. I can't wait!!

lol that was my ?? too. After all - look at my username.

I may be mad, but sorry not crazy (quilty-speaking).

Tried to put together a crazy patch with cotton fabrics, and I don't know if the colors were too bright, or what - but it just didn't work out.

QuickStitch 08-14-2010 09:58 AM

Well, I don't know if I would call myself a crazy quilter or not since I have not actually made a crazy quilt yet, but I have put 4 blocks together. Still have alot more to go, then all the embellishments that goes with it. That is the scary part for me, and the most important part. To me, at least when I look at other's quilts, that is what really makes the quilts so beautiful. I just don't have all the stitches mastered yet, but working on them. Now, just if I'm crazy or not, the gkids think I act like that sometimes, but that's how I entertain the little buggers.(They are all under the age of 4)LOL

dakotamaid 08-14-2010 01:32 PM

I haven't done a complete crazy quilt but have done some pillow covers and decided, at least for me, that the success may be in the prints, bold and soft, and the use of color value. In other words don't put too much of the same thing together.

Well, I quilt and people tell me I'm crazy... does that count? Actually, I've done a few small crazy quilt style projects, but it isn't my first love.

Aunt Retta 08-14-2010 01:58 PM

I am planning to make a crazy quilt, using the scraps from PJ's that I made my sisters family the last two years.

It is on my "to do" list. Now I just have to live to 150 to complete everything.

Welllllll, I'm crazy although not certifiable and I started a crazy quilt patch in summer. Does that count?

grannyQ 08-14-2010 05:15 PM

K.P. I really like your red crazy quilt. Beautiful color and the diagonal setting. I'm making one with 17 shades of green and beige for GS.

Quilter Day-by-Day 08-14-2010 05:49 PM

I started my first Crazy Quilt last Oct. for myself and I'm still not done it's going to be a king size. but I haven't been able to climb stairs for awhole has I had a knee replaced in Nov. last year and then broke that same foot going thru therapy and then I had selective surgery on my right foot in July just got the cast off,but anhow after all that I have a question for the crazy quilters is it better to frame the blocks or just put them together,It's actually a stack-n-whack multi colored. sorry this is so long but i hoping to get back to working on it in the next few weeks.

Sadheart 08-14-2010 05:53 PM

Now that is really Beautiful. I love the red. How big are your squares? How many did you use?
That is just lovely.

sewnmom 08-14-2010 06:31 PM

CompulsiveQuilter 08-14-2010 07:55 PM

Like everything else, I have purchased the fabrics to make a crazy quilt - but I've yet to start. My favorite quilting friend does crazy quilts 24/7 and they're beyond beautiful. I couldn't come close. I admire anybody with such patience.

Matilda 08-14-2010 08:13 PM

Lynnie, I think you should do bright. I think it would be beautiful especially when you get embroidery on it. Emmy

I think it is funny that people say that! I think "well someone has to do that for the clothes you wear!" Of course it is not little pieces but still....

I'm working on a crazy crumb quilt! Oh, and last year for my little brother's birthday I made him a crazy quilt, too.

My squares on the burgandy and gold quilt are 11X11, as a matter of fact, I used Bounty paper towel sheets as my foundation, works beautifully, and you don't take them out. with foundation sheets, you can plan on it being a heavier quilt, especially with all the top stitching dover all the seams of each block. I'm not sure how many blocks there are, but it works on my king-size bed with about 5 inches of overhang, so it's pretty big. It's shown in the picture I posted over a queen size bed. I did it over a period of time, it's a true crazy quilt, I didn't plan the patterns in the squares (probably no 2 exactly alike) or the colors... I wanted it red/burgandy, and I use a lot of fabric with burgandy in it, so every time I had scraps left over, I'd make a few more squares; pretty soon, I had it all done. There just happened to be a scrap I used a lot that had some gold/yellow in the background, so that's how I picked the contrast color; I wasn't pleased with the outcome at first, but it growing on me...

Matilda 08-16-2010 09:20 PM

Your quilt is beautiful.

Won't the paper towels bunch up when the quilt is washed?

K.P. 08-17-2010 04:15 AM

Nope, I have some friends who have each had several made with Bounty, they have all washed them several times, on purpose to test it out, and they are as smooth as can be, it may depend on the quilting, I'm not sure, but their's are all fine. It has to be Bounty though, they have not tested the less popular brands so they may not hold up...so far so good.

What would be a good book to purchase showing CQ stitches? Thanks...........calla/Sue I have Crazy Quilts by Machine, by J. Marsha Michler but I wanted something done by hand............

quiltlady37 09-19-2010 08:42 AM

I belong to an internet forum. One night I had a dream that I went to my mailbox and there were packages from all over the US and other countries. My sis posted my dream on the forum and soon I was getting all of those packages. I made a crazy quilt and it represents all the members of the forum. I will post a picture in the picture section. I couldn't believe some of the things people sent. I even got two Disney bandanas, one of Mickey and one of Minnie. I put those in the borders.

maryb119 09-19-2010 08:56 AM

I have a crazy quilt my grandma made for me. I have never made one but I love hers.

Scissor Queen 09-19-2010 09:05 AM

I have several crazy quilt blocks made. They need to go to my girlfriend next for the embroidery and then she'll send them back to me for the assembly. Mine are all made with satin, silk, and velvets.

pookie ookie 09-19-2010 09:12 AM

I have a QAYG crazy quilt on my To Do list. I need more threads first.

LOL That is funny Kathy! But that is rewarding work. You help make a difference in these people's lives.

Matilda 10-18-2010 11:51 AM

I have just now decided that a crazy quilt is one that is taking me TOO long to do and a crazy quilter is one that just takes too long to get it done!! :-D

I have this quilt--all appliqued and had the blocks sewed together and decided I didn't like it and took it apart--NOT the applique mind you just took the blocks apart. So I am thinking "I need to go and put this "crazy quilt" together so that makes me the "crazy quilter"!!

I have started collecting my velvets, and satins, and silks, as that is what I want to make mine out of. Bet your blocks are beautiful!!
