I am so proud of my step-daughter. A couple of months ago she came to a quilting day with me and a couple of gals from our church. A fun day for all of us, and a learning day for her. She made a placemat using the tube method. She was SOOOO proud of herself.

This past week, she asked me to take her to Joanns to help her pick a dress pattern and fabric. She made excellent choices. She brought everything here one evening and had me show her how to cut it out. No sewing done since then as she is away to the lake with friends for the weekend.

We have another quilt day coming up and she is super keen to come again. She wants to make a lap quilt with a jelly roll I bought for her. (Her choice. :) )

She leaves us for college in the fall, so I am so happy that she is getting in a few lessons before going.

What a wonderful thing for the two of you to share. Thanks for introducing another young lady to the joys of sewing and quilting.

That's great that she seems to like it! I see you are in Minnesota. Does she need a beginner sewing machine? I have a Singer that I won't use. It's one of the cheap ones from Target....but it's a machine! Just let me know, I'd be more than willing to let her have it!

Patti, that is awesome! Get her busy with those quilts and she'll have something to do at college to keep her out of trouble! lol.
Heather - what an awesome offer you've made.
Have a blessed day everyone.

What a wonderful way to bond a family. Heather you are a sweetheart to offer this machine.

Yes, she and I have a wonderful relationship. Sometimes I think I am more of a mom to her than her own mom. When she needs help with anything, she calls me or her dad. I was a bit worried about what kind of relationship we would have when I came into this family. She was only 10. Now at 18, we are very good friends.

Heather, thankyou for your very generous offer!!! She does have her own machine. Two C'mas's ago, DH and I added to money my mom sent to buy her a gift, and bought her a fairly basic machine. Even so, it still has several fancy stitches. With her artistic eye, she already has played some with them for quilting.

She is a little concerned about where will she keep the machine at college, and when and where will she be able to use it. We have talked about possibilities and she is now quite keen to take it with her. Even if she can only sew for short periods, it will be a relaxing/stress reliever for her. She is taking bio-medical engineering, so a pretty heavy slate!!!

What a dear step-mom you are to bond so well with your step-daughter. Thanks for taking the time to create another ADDICT like us. With her class load at college, she'll defintiely need her sewing as an outlet for stress!! It will keep her grounded!!
