I've just finished the quilt I was making for my 4 year old Rapunzel/Tangled obsessed daughter for her 5th birthday next month and she has just set me a new challenge

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...7C15350118.htm

She has seen this picture... and more than anything wants the "princess tower" to go over/around the ladder up to her bunk. Now, I have no problem with the tent flaps (although I don't know what her little sister will make of her big sister trying to "lock her in")), I have no problem with fancy quilts and (luckily) she isn't interested in the weird tunnel over the bed, but she does REALLY REALLY want mummy to magic up a Rapunzel tower for her...

Any suggestions??

I'd have to say that big sister is not in charge of decorating a room she shares with little sister unless they both agree on those decorations.

LOL, don't worry, little sister really wants the "tent flaps" on the basis that I've promised her there can be farmyard animals inside! They spend lots of time huddled in the lower bunk together with blankets tucked in the sides of the upper bunk to make it a private hidey hole.

That will be challenging. In a way it seems like it would be easy but maybe not. Could you make a frame of light weight chicken wire to give it shape and then cover it with fabric?

I remember all the time I spend when young making little tents under tables and couch cushions with blankets thrown over. It will be a wonderful little adventure for both of them.

I agree! Peacefully sharing living/working space with others is a skill best learned young...for it is pretty much the way life is going to be all along the way.

If her sister is okay with being inside a tent, I would make a really long "dust" ruffle to go on the upper bunk. I would take off the upper mattres, and attach some stone patterned fabric all around to a plain flat sheet cut the size of the mattress. The stone fabric would need to have a seam in the bottom center for access to the lower bunk. If that much stone fabric is out of your price range, I would buy gray flat sheets and make a stone template to trace and make stones on it with a permanent marker. As for putting anything around her ladder, no that will be a safety risk.

How about suspending the tower from the ceiling? you could make it around a hula hoop for the bottom part of the roof and use a smaller ring at the top for the point and attach that smaller ring to the ceiling. The sides would then just drape down.

This is so much easier then making a frame with chicken wire and probably safer too.

Ditto the ceiling for the tower.
I think some Velcro or buttons for picking sides up when cleaning room.

I vote for pvc pipe as your frame.
