These are great - do the embroidery patterns come from a book?

What beautiful work.. I have a 90 year old MIL and she does handwork most all day.. It is beautiful and will be a treasure. You have wonderful suggestions, I'm sure finding the 'just right fabric' will tell you what you need to do.

what about a narrow white ribbon, would that work for a quilt? I think that would be nice...

Wow, how beautiful. Pink and green would be my choice, but I would go to your LQS and look around at fabric, keep your mind open to something you haven't considered, you might find "the perfect idea and fabric" I agree that you don't want to take away from the embroidery with anything to showy. Possibly, if you stay with pink and green sashing, a subtle floral, not a busy one, for the cornerstones might be good without being too much.Do you know what style your daughter would like? Something more elegant or thirties style, or solids, I would try to find that out, of course without letting her know the real reason.

Blocks are beautiful. I think something soft and light pastel would go with the blocks

You could always use the bridesmaid's dress for sashing after the wedding!

So beautiful, and so meaningful for your daughter; what a blessing your mom is.

I agree, pink or green sashing strips with the other color as cornerstones. The blocks are beautiful, BTW. The quilt is going to be a stunner!

"yes I did the embroidery work. I do a lot of embroidery.MARYKOCH"
Mary that is so so very beautiful. The colors and everything are lovely. I know white is traditional for a wedding, but if I had a white quilt, it would never find it's way out of a plastic bag and onto my bed. How could I ever hope to keep it clean and looking nice? Even if it's a wedding quilt, tradition be danged, lol, I want color and practicality. Give me the pinks and yellows and greens like Mary used on her quilt. The white of the embroidered squares will stand out on their own, like hers do. Just my opinion. Hugs and smiles. What a blessing to have such a joyful project to share with your mother. |
O Mary! How beautiful. I don't have any suggestions other than I like the idea of lots of white. You know that this will be a lifetime treasure especially coming from her mom and grandma. How will you have the quilting done? Wouldn't it be wonderful to have greenfairy or Richard Larsen do their magic on this beauty? That is of course, if you couldn't do it yourself which would be ideal. I'd love to be a fly on the wall to see your daughters expression when she receives this work of art. Please share when it is finished.

White sashing w/ vine repro through the sashing. Since it is a wedding gift and will be used for both partners, I am hesitant to place colors (sashing). That is beautiful embroidery and will surely make a WOW quilt. Lots of love in those stitches.

I think the yellow and sage would be soft and lovely. What a treasure your DD and her groom will have
|
I think using the yellow and green, maybe with some pink splashes, flowers or what-not would make it more versatile, the husband would probably be more apt to enjoy it displayed than if there's a lot more pink in it.
Didn't read dyer's post til just now, so I guess this is kind of repeating, but that's what I have to say |

If you have only six 15 inch blocks you could pick a coordinating print or pretty solid to make six more same size with one beautiful embroidery block separated by the solid to make three blocks across and four down still adding sashing and one or two pretty borders and you would have a very nice wedding quilt

The blocks are 15 inches finished. I love the blocks your mom made. Diane |
The alternating block could be an hourglass block made up of pale yellow and sage green. Changing the orientation of these in each row would make it appear that a diamond shape would surround each of these beautiful embroidered blocks.
|
I would not put a lot of color in the sashing as I think it would take away from the beautiful needlework -- might even just use more white and quilt the sashing elaborately. I think the colors (pink or blue) would be too much - but that's just me.

The block looks quilted. Is it.

It is already quilted. It is a long story. Here goes.
I had yellow all around it making it a queen size quilt. My sister told me to use Crayola washable markers. I don't recommend it. They aren't as washable as they claim to be. Yes, I tried one before I did it. One color did wash out another color did not. I had it half hand quilted. It wouldn't wash out. I had to make a decision on how to salvage it. I decided to turn it into a quilt as you go. I decided to make a yellow pieced block for it. That didn't work. I turned it into it's own quilt. That is why I am turning to all of you for suggestions. It seems like everything I have tried has been a failure. I'll include a couple pictures of the journey this poor quilt has made. |

I love this idea. |
I would say soft pink sashing as well with scalloped edges.
