Cross hatch
1 Attachment(s)
I wanted to SITD between blocks before FMQ but didn't want a lot of ends to tie off. I decided to try the continuous cross hatch method with a little adjustment since I was working on a rectangle not a square. It worked really well and I only have the start and finish to tie off. I tried to get a picture of the back.

Very clever way to do it. I've drawn out continuous stitching like that before on things but never on cross hatch.
i often do this... sometimes i get one extra tie off, though. thanks for posting the path
Thanks for posting. When I've tried this in the past, I've gotten off course, I'll have to give it another go!
oh ok now i get it, thanks for the diagram nancy zeiman did something like this on a table runner and i tried it ,lol it didn't work very well for me i kept getting lost somehow, but now i see where i went wrong.........thanks

Very helpful! I could never quite figure out the path. Thank you!!!
that's the way to do it!! great job!!

Going to have to start calling you Ernest, Tartan. I bet you know the story behind this technique....
I often cross hatch and decided a while ago that there had to be a better way than just going from side to side and tying off all the ends so gave it some thought. It then came to me that I could keep on going with a minimum of pulling threads through and tying them off - which is the most boring part of quilting.
I have just finished a runner for the top of a piano and used this method. |
That's cool. Thank you.
great idea
Thank you so much, Tartan. I saved it for future reference. Color coding really helps just like a map.

Clever, very clever, Tartan. I love the color coding, it helps tremendously in following the instructions. Thanks for posting.
That is so cool! Thank you for the chart, especially the color coding on it.
I call it my bank shot quilting and it really works great on rectangles because you just keep going till you run out of angles.
Thank you. I've tried this before & gotten "lost" :) This should help.
Thanks for posting the path for me :)
I do a lot of cross-hatching quilting, thanks for the continuous chart!
Tartan you do the Best at explaining things!!!! Thank you.

Tartan, thanks for taking the time to post your drawing...I'll have to give it a try.
I may try it. I can't follow my GPS, don't know if I could follow your drawing. I am directionally challenged.

I use different colored washable markers to draw my lines. I follow one color at a time. It works for me.
