I quilted one for a friend of mine. She loved it, but she also has it in her own hot little hands now, so I can't post a picture of it. I'll try to explain how she put it together. She used the bag fabric as her quilt background (piecework, if you will); fussy cut the emblems, attached them to the squares, and used the border (I guess the serging type stitching all around the top of the bags) to dress up the emblems and squares. Probably a slow and tedious process, but it turned out beautiful. Ask for a lot of time if you take it on.

I have made one years ago. It turned out nice. Give it a try.

I have my bags. Hadn't thought about them not being colorfast so I'll wash first. I've seen some pictures online of very pretty quilts made out of the bags.

Thanks for all the help, advice & links to pictures. For some reason I was thinking this was something that hadn't been done much before. Looks like a lot of quilters do the unique thing more often than I thought.
So the cold water wash works? I do not like bleeders!

I quilted one on my long arm but have never pieced one. She used regular cotton for the backing worked up great.

Disappearing nine patch would be great and easy. You just need to be careful to get the printing on the block that is out front and not put it up side down. Once you get a system going it works well. Try a practice with scaps.

Here's a couple that I have done. They turn out great and don't bleed.

Those are great! Thanks for sharing.
I wouldn't have thought to leave the gold seams on it like you did on the first one. Adds character.

I've made two. One for my DS AND ONE FOR A NEPHEW. keep in mind they end up small squares. I added fabric in shades of purple and gold and backed in a prole mottle. Actually turned out kinda neat. You can get lots of bags on eBay really cheap.

This brings back memories. I dated a man ONCE who turned out to be a Royal Crown drinker and asked me to take his bags and make a quilt. Turns out he was married!!! Hope it's not the same guy!!!! LOL
