crumb blocks do not need to have foundation or stabilizer like a string block does. I've never made crumbs blocks with foundation.

Crumb: bits of scrap with no real pattern String or strip: sometimes called "noodles " too..just straight strips of fabrics, some make the all the same width, some use various widths. some have a secondary pattern,if you use the same width or color in the same place on each block. i think it makes it more interesting this way. usually done on a foundation of some sort, muslin or paper Crazy Quilting: various sizes and types of fabrics used..silks,velvets,cottons..embellished with decorative stitches and or bits of Lace,buttons,charms usually done on a foundation also they are a wonder to behold! |

I'm usually interested in the very planned out color quilts, but I have to say there are some lovely quilts here. They are very cheerful, and it's a great way to squeeze another quilt out of whatever fabric you have. I have a couple of drawers full of scraps I couldn't make myself throw out either. LOL Thanks for the inspiration, I think I'm going to try and see what I come up with.

Reminds me of a crazy quilt except all of the pieces are small. No problem. They are very pretty though.

Sharon W. in Texas I have a pile of lights,mediums and darks. Most of the time I just choose randomly from the piles; it all seems to work out just fine. Color value is what is most important when I make a scrap quilt; color doesn't matter as much. |
Most of my quilts are constructed with the same colors, thus the coordination, HOWEVER, I fuss over which colors go next to each other. I try to shake up the shapes so the pieces look random.
As I'm running out of the pieces I really like, it's getting harder to construct the blocks! I need four more out of the stock I have. Then I'm going to alternate them with a solid-ish block. Saw it somewhere and it really set off the crumbs!
