I have started saving my "crumbs" to give away on this board. How small is to small to qualify as a crumb? Some of my crumbs are 1/2" x 1".

if you sew a 1/4" on each side and don't see any fabric then they are too small....except for those who do paperpiecing of 1/16" pieces.

That is a good size crumb, there is alot you can do with that size doing a top stitch on a muslin foundation.
