I have been saving my crumbs but have no idea how to use them. Help!

Out of all the 'crumbs' I've seen - I like yours the best!

yes, this is where I got my inspiration.

ToucanSam 05-18-2010 08:29 AM

I dont think i have the patience to sew that many seams and then press them open!

DebraK 05-18-2010 08:34 AM

you get a chain piecing rythym going. The pressing isn't hard, but there is a lot of trimming.

LaurieE 05-18-2010 08:36 AM

Are those placemats that you made? They're very pretty.

I just went to that web site, WOW! What tiny little pieces!

sewnsewer2 05-18-2010 11:01 AM

How big do you consider a crumb? Inquiring minds want to know.

dotcomdtcm 05-18-2010 11:02 AM

I will never throw another one away! How pretty!

dotcomdtcm 05-18-2010 11:05 AM

I think I might collage them onto fusible stuff & make notecards or cut out to be gift cards too.

Hey that's a neat idea. I might try that.

dotcomdtcm 05-18-2010 11:16 AM

Since I have become a maniac quilter I would like some quilt note cards. Maybe at American Craft museum or online?

Bonnie Hunter's site is wonderful and SHE IS GREAT IN PERSON!

DEBRA: Your blocks look like they're quilted. Are they? Your instructions don't go that far.

Thanks - This would be a perfect project for a sewing machine that's sitting all alone in a separate room. :(

DebraK 05-18-2010 12:57 PM

yes, they are quilted. They're each about the size of a fat quarter. That's what they're backed with. They are backed with inexpensive "what was I thinking when I bought this" fat quarters ;-)

I quilted aprox a 1.5" grid. I work on these when I'm between projects or don't know what to make next. They are my threapy quilts ;-) Sometimes I just sew aimlessly when I'm in a funk. Like going for a drive and not knowing where you'll end up.

I am looking for large applique patterns.I went to amish auction and they these beautiful quilts big peacocks all kinds of large applique .Does anyone know where to get patterns

Jingle 05-19-2010 04:59 AM

These are great, I would sew them together and make a quilt with them. I was going to save scraps and make one, I forgot about it and threw small trimmings away, now I have to go through my wastecan and retrieve the ones in there. I think they would make a beautiful quilt.

Got It! How are you joining them together - Like QAYG with sashing?

DebraK 05-22-2010 08:34 PM

I'm just collecting them at this point. I have a few ideas rumbling around. I really like seeing them as useable cloth rather than a bag of waste. I use scrap batting for these as well.

Thanks - at this quilted point I bet joining them with the binding would be pretty easy.

I'll put this type of project on my 'winter to-do list' for when it's too cold to sew downstairs....hmmm maybe on the treadle machine that's in the same room as the wood burning stove! :)
