After reading other posts, I'm thinking of ordering the sets of Connecting Threads essential thread. I need to get a good assortment of cotton thread. Is it noted anywhere on the spool what the color is - by number or name? Thanks.

King's Daughter 10-09-2009 08:06 AM

Yes, there is a little sticker with the color name on the cellophane wrapper, but not on the spool itself.

hokieappmom 10-09-2009 08:21 AM

Thanks.

King's Daughter 10-09-2009 08:29 AM

You're welcome!
I have a couple of their thread collections, and they are very nice, and it's great to have variety of colors available.

hokieappmom 10-09-2009 08:43 AM

how do you store yours?

King's Daughter 10-09-2009 09:05 AM

Just in a drawer for now, one of those 5-6 drawer plastic roll-around things, which I keep under my cutting table. I'm badly in need of more room (I'm in a 9x12 bedroom that has a sofa bed and dresser, in addition to my ever-expanding collection of quilting stuff), and we've joked around about buying the vacant house next to ours and making a connector between the two houses!

I would suggest you order one spool first and try it out. My machine likes this thread and I buy a lot of it. Some machine do no like it.

What kind of machine do you have?

DA Mayer 10-09-2009 11:10 AM

has anyone used it on a viking or kenmore machine?

BellaBoo 10-09-2009 11:42 AM

All my machines like it, I have a Singer Quantum, Brother 1500ps, Featherweight, Singer 301, Janome Gem Gold and a Singer 15-90.

Anyone with a Bernina?

mcdaniel023 10-09-2009 12:08 PM

I purchased this thread after reading about it here. I love it. It gives off so much less lint. It is very economical, too. I pieced 5 adult throws with one spool. That includes the bobbins! Order one or two and try it.

Quiltgranny 10-09-2009 12:26 PM

Yep, I've got two - the old 730 and the 1090 and they both love the Essentials thread. It also works well in my Baby Lock and Singer Quantum. I've heard others say they were advised by Janome not to use anything but Gutermann thread in their machines. Other than that, I haven't come across an complaints.

I've purchased four sets and been using them since they came out with no problems. I find them to be strong, yet leaves little lint. I love the vast assortment of colors, especially for machine quilting. Good luck on whatever you decide. Can't beat their prices, either!

Happy quilting,

Yes, I have a Bernina. It does fine on my machine. I have had, on only one spool, a little trouble with a varigated thread. It was only the one spool, I have used others just fine. I do find it lints up a little, though not nearly like the cheaper c&c or other cheapie threads.
I would recommend getting it. I use it all the time

Yes, I have a Bernina 630. It does fine on my machine. I have had, on only one spool, a little trouble with a varigated thread. It was only the one spool, I have used others just fine. I do find it lints up a little, though not nearly like the cheaper c&c or other cheapie threads.

hokieappmom 10-09-2009 12:56 PM

Thanks all. Just ordered 2 to try, but will probably order the sets.

littlehud 10-09-2009 04:26 PM

It's even cheaper to order the sets. And remember if you spend over $50.00 you get free shipping.

harrishwhippets 10-09-2009 05:55 PM

I have two Janome machines, a small one I take to classes and a 6600, and they have no problem with this thread unless I use the wrong size needle. Love the stuff and very reasonable in the sets.

sewmuch 10-09-2009 06:23 PM

I have a Janome and use the neutral color set...love it and so does my machine...good price too

I just ordered three sets of CT thread and I love it. I have a Bernina and it sews beautifully with this thread.

I store my thread on a thread rack like this----I have 6 of them hanging on the wall in my quilt room

deltaquilter 10-10-2009 12:33 PM

I have a Janome 9000 (my workhorse), a Bernina 440, Featherweight and Janome Platinum. I love this thread, great colors, no lint, works great on all my machines. Since Coats & Clark has changed their Dual Duty to a poor quality thread, this is all I use. I never buy Dual Duty now.

sweetsie 10-10-2009 12:35 PM

I have an old Bernina it will take the CT Essential thread just fine, this
machine is about 26yrs old. It does what I ask of it.As my saying goes
"try it you might like it" Just had to add my two cents worth

sewin'sam 10-10-2009 01:06 PM

I have been using their thread for a couple of years & like it very much. If you watch & get it on sale, it's even better! The ONLY drawback is that the color name /number is NOT on the spool so once you take the wrapper off, there's no way to know. I made a chart by copying the page in the catalog with all the colors of ET thread. I cut a small piece of thread & tape it next to the color on the picture. Then I write when I bought it & how much. That way, I know when I need to order more of a certain color. I also keep the label off the wrapper so I can cross-check if necessary.

BethD 10-12-2009 03:15 AM

I have a Viking Sapphire and this thread works well on it.

Where did you get your racks?

RedGarnet222 10-12-2009 05:59 AM

I also have 2 bernina's. An old 830 and a new one (to me). Artista 180. Well ...also a janome memorycraft and my mom's old singer. They all take the essential threads wonderfully. I ordered every one of the sets, but the blacks. They all seem to have wonderful quality with little lint.

BellaBoo 10-12-2009 08:36 AM

I never thought about the color name, never looked at the name when ordering. I choose my thread by sight. I have found CT thread pictures depict the threads true colors. I love their sets, so pretty.

harrishwhippets 10-12-2009 10:08 AM

Bella talking about pretty, your making me very hungry for Pumpkin pie!!!

BellaBoo 10-12-2009 11:26 AM

We love pumpkin or sweet potato pie! I make it year round. Most times I make the filling and bake it without the pie crust. I call it pumpkin pudding.

harrishwhippets 10-12-2009 12:11 PM

Thanks for that info. I'm allergic to wheat, gonna try that. YUM_O!!

sash 10-12-2009 05:20 PM

I have a Janome and I have lots of it, and it does very well on my machine. In fact, that is all I piece with. I don't think you will go wrong.

bluebird 10-12-2009 05:39 PM

Also have a Janome. Love this thread, have used it for about 2 years, no problems in my other machine either.

I keep my threads in an old wooden "coke" crate, think mine is Pepsi though :D Each section holds a couple of the spools, I try to keep color families together but grand kids love playing with them.

Happy quilting,

I have a 1090 too! What a tank it is! It's an all around great coputerized sewing machine. One of the best from when Viking/Husqvarna was at the top of their game. It made me so sad to try the newer ones. They just don't make them like that anymore. :(
