I am making a curtain for my granddaughter's new baby's room. I think I am going to make one of those that you gather up with ribbons. (what do you call that?) anyway, do you think I should line it? It is of cotton fabric in a 'cow' pattern. She also wants a dust ruffle, should I line that too?

I would line it ... dust ruffle doesn't need to be lined.

yep, I agree. It will help protect the curtain from sun if the lining is made with a black-out type of curtain lining. It's not difficult to sew with and you'll be glad later. The cow fabric sounds cute. Be sure to post pictures when you are done.

I think both hang better if lined, don't you? And the curtain it would help with fading from the sun. Personal preference I suppose. I've made both with and without.

I would think the need to line the curtain will depend on how much light you want to come thru and how long you think it will be before she moves on to another design. Kids grow very fast and outgrow their room decor fast as well. Lining material is pretty pricey, so I have never used on curtains and have never had to replace any before the need to change style. JMHO

Definitely line with black out fabric if possible. Dark rooms make good napping time for children. My grandson will take a good nap if the room is dark and calm. Just my 2 bits.

I totally agree, it's whether you want the light kept out of baby's room Bon-Bon. And, yes, kids outgrow stuff so, once again, personal preference and use wins! :)
