I am a new quilter and i have done simple, and intermediate level quilts, but i don't have the guts to try sewing 2 curved pcs...I can't even figure out how to sew the curved pc in a fan pattern (i started one btw and it is somewhere in one of my stashes;)
Worth to note that i am a visual person so i would really appreciate pics to show me how and what to do to overcome my fear. If anybody knows a source for this or a tutorial i would greatly appreciate that as i feel i am missing a lot): Thank you all Faten |
i am sure some one can find that for you

They had something on one of the Fon's and Porter's shows and one thing was to pin the heck out of it.
|
Wish I could help. I am making the Amish Wagon wheel
that fons and porter had on their show. I am still having trouble with the curves.I am hoping after making a few of the blocks it will get easier. And I am pinning the heck out of them. |

This is a free pattern from connectingthreads, and it has a tutorial on how to do the curved pieces. Maybe this will help! |
Thanks. I'll try that
|
lol...i guess if i can find something i'll post it here
|
OMG this is the pattern that i was planning (dying to do)
|
May be this will help?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqbO8894fAI There is another one mentioned on the right side. |
I have a curvemaster foot and haven't tried it yet. Going to take a class at my LQS and see if that will alleviate my fear of curves. I know that I can sew, just don't like ripping out stitches. There has got to be a way that is simpler and not so intimidating.

There are a few tutorials on http://www.yuotube.com. Use the search and type in -how to sew curves.
|
Thanks for the site you posted. I went to it and really enjoyed it,
of course I will be returning to the tutorials again. |
Here's a tutorial that I put together on stitching up a Rob Peter to Pay Paul block. The pieces were cut with an AccuQuilt Die Cutter, but the concept is the same.
The "trick" for me really was knowing which piece should go on top, slowing down, and holding the piece on top up & close to the needle. You'll see it. I stitch these without pins. http://quiltpossible.com/12/06/67/ |
Thank you LoveBug. That is so much better than tons of pins!
|
I've seen several quilters using this curve foot to sew curves without pins. (on videos). I haven't used it myself, so I don't know how well it works.

I just finished a quilt that the blocks were all quarter-circles (stack a deck quilt). Sewing curves isn't hard; I just hold the bottom piece in one hand and the top piece in the other. Stitch slowly, and maneuver the pieces as you go so that by the time they reach the needle, they are together. It's OK if they are not matching until that point. Sometime's it's necessary to stop with the needle down, lift the pressure foot, and begin again if it's a tight curve. |
wow thank you lovebug this is very clear. I guess i have the nerve to get me a template for the double wedding ring (i love that pattern) and wanna try it so bad.
Thanks you again Faten |
