Cutting space/Ironing space
 

I'm thinking about having my DH build a combination table for my cutting area and a ironing area. I seen a picture somewhere and of course I can't find this back again. It had a cutting area on one end and the ironing area on the other end of the space. Just curious if anyone else have something like this and does it work for you or what would you do different if you had the chance? Pictures would be very helpful if possible. And measurements as well. I hope explained myself enough!!

That's what they have set up on the Quilt with the Stars videos if you go to the Fons & Porter website -- though I think it's on the low side in order to accommodate the cameras. They have an ironing pad that they use for pressing. You could probably attach it with Velcro strips onto the table so that it's secure, but easily enough removable for laundering. I believe theirs has little rubber "feet" to keep it from slipping much.

If you think about it for a bit, I bet you can design exactly what you want. I have a cutting table that folds up into a full length mirror. And a DH of a friend made us large ironing areas (24in. by 48 in.) that fit on our ironing boards. It hide behind a door or in the closet when not in use. So if you can't find it - just draw it out.

Look in organisation sure it was there way back. But it does show small areas using one space. Don't forget underneath for storage and a toe area at base to get as close as possible.

I have one of the craft tables (like at JoAnns) that have the 2 leaves that fold down with the space in the center. I use this for both cutting and ironing. I have my mat at one end and use folded towels on the other end for ironing. If I need to iron large quantities of fabric I just remove the mat and add more towels. My room is just too small for doing anything differently but I also really like it. If I need more layout space, I just remove the towels. Very versatile.

my sister and i made ours from old dressers. we purchased 2 x 4 feet MDO board and used spray basting to cover it in foil. worked great. then added a layer of batting and muslin over the top. stapled the muslin tightly over the batting. then made a removable cover that can be thrown in the washing machine. i find i use the cut and press board more for cutting than anything and it sits up there fine. I am planning on getting a 1/2 sheet of plywood to cut to fit my larger cutting mat. I'm not sure yet how I will attach the cutting mat to it, but I plan on adding a strap handle to the back so it will be easy to move it. Then I can just set it on top of the press board to cut on and then out of the way to iron. My sewing area is very small, its just a bedroom in a trailer. O, and I put a piece of that rubber type shelf liner on the dresser top to protect it and keep the press board stable. I'm very happy with it.
