I just discovered for myself a trick that has helped me to cut a straight cross strip which is very helpful for me when cutting squares for half and quarter triangles, mostly for scrappy quilts. I like to use a squaring ruler to make sure I get true squares and the fabric always wants to slip just a little at the end of the cut.

By chance I made a "release" cut at the end of my fabric before I made the entire cut. I did this by just pressing the tip of the cutting blade into the end of the fabric and making a 1/4" cut. No more slipping fabric at the end of the cut.

The picture shows the spot I cut before doing the whole cut. I hope this is coherent.

This is a discovery for me and and maybe others use this trick already. If this is an old trick, just allow my enthusiasm.

how do you "book mark" the page?

I just add to "Favorites" on the toolbar (ie: file edit view ) I have my favorites in catagories, Misc., Quilting, Recipes etc.

Good tip! I have that problem with the little slip on the end so this is new to me.

I have done this when I needed a triangular cut. But now I will do the same thing with other cuts. Thank you!!
