WHENEVER I USE MY ROTARY CUTTER AND RULER TO CUT STRIPS, ETC. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE RULER WILL INVARIABLY MOVE JUST A TAD BIT, BUT JUST ENOUGH TO MAKE MY CUT SLIGHTLY UNEVEN. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Actually, I have the same problem sometimes. I solved it by using one of those suction cup safety handle thingies...you know the ones. They were initially made to help you in and out of the bathtub. Now, the quilt stores sell them at really high prices to stick on to the acrylic rulers to hold them down for steadier cutting. I found mine at Salvation Army for $2.49. Go figure! You can also find them at Harbor freight if you have one close by. I also heard something about using drywall tape on the back of the ruler. Hmmmm, maybe I should check out my DH's workshop.

get some sandpaper dots to put on the under side of your rulers..helps a lot!

I use the suction thing too, bought it at a (sort of ) dollar store for 2,49.

I use the suction handle when using the long ruler, but I bought little clear silicon stickons for the smaller rulers. They seem to work real well for me.

sandpaper dots work best for me,,,, I made my own, bought some 'peel and stick 'sandpaper and punched out a ton!

If you plan to cut lots of strips, getting a June Tailor Shape Cut mat will help keep your cuts straight. I prefer using that to using a ruler, although sandpaper dots on the bottom of my ruler do help keep it from slipping. Also, when using a ruler, I am careful to keep part of my hand on the mat (part of hand on ruler, part on mat); that also helps prevent slipping.

Yes, always put part of your hand on the mat instead of all on the ruler. I just learned this myself.

I may have to try that suction cup idea!
