I have the first one and it is a bit flimsy. The screws on the bottom fall out a lot but I really like the size. I'm kind o tall and it is a nice height. I bought mine at JoAnns a few years ago with a coupon and gift card so it cost me next to nothing. I guess over all I'm satisfied with it.

I have the first table and love it. It is very stable and just the right height.

I'll chime in too... because of limited space I use a drafting table... it's this one:

I have a cutting mat that is the exact size of this table's top so it works well for me. I also made an ironing surface out of a wooden board that I can set on top of the table to use when needed. I store my sewing machines (in cases) underneath the table. By the way, I'm short (5' nothing LOL) and the height of many tables is too high for me - this one's perfect. :)

My cutting table is a double wide dresser that my husband built a top to go on it. I not only have cutting space but also storage. Also it is on rollers that will lock. And I can move it to clean. Love it.

I use the first one and have for 10-15 years. I don't consider it flimsy and don't have a problem with it moving. I like it because I do not have a dedicated space for it. I have used it on carpet and on tile and really do not have a problem with it moving (unless I am pushing it to move it - lol).

I have the one w/o the shelf and I bought the one w/the self for Christmas one year for my daughter. We both like them. I've had mine since 'before' the one w/the shelf was out or I would have bought it instead. The metal frame is fine, however the table top is made from particle board and therefore you need to be careful when rolling it about as the table as this puts a little strain on the joining area where the underside of the table and leg frame are joined. Keeping this in mind and you'll have lots of years of use! one more thing...I roll my table into the tv room that has an area rug....I lift the one end of the legs over the rug and usually just move the table by the legs to avoid the strain on the joints.... and being that it folds for storage and you can save w/ the JA coupon I say 'go for it'!!!

Yep, I presume any banquet table you get will be far sturdier and much less expensive. And you can get TWO if you want a bigger surface, but I don't think you would need it. And you can get an adjustable banquet table from Costco (the price will likely be better in warehouse, because they include the shipping in the online price): http://www.costco.com/Lifetime%C2%AE....11528791.html.

I haven't seen those particular tables but I've seen cutting tables. I would take a banquet table any day for the sturdiness...another nice thing is you can fold them and put them away when you don't need them.

I had the one from JoAnns, but the top broke off from the bottom stand after a while. The idea is good, but the material for the top was poor.

Like Sewnoma, I have a dining room table on bed risers. I bought a clearance table from a local furniture store, found some wooden bedrisers from Bed Bath, painted the risers, and my DH screwed the risers to the bottom of the table legs. Perfect height.

It depends on how much room you have as to what to use. The bed risers or PVC pipes will work with folding tables from Costco or elsewhere as well. I think there was a link about how to make risers out of the pipe.

I have the first one you posted. It works well. Perhaps not the greatest quality but it works!! For the price I would go with the shelf. A word of warning. Never ever move the table without unlocking the wheels. I moved my table without unlocking a wheel and it broke right off. So now I have to wedge into place when I move it. The cool thing about this table is it folds up to a convenient size. My quilt room is our guest room so it's great being able to make everything compact. If space is a problem for you I recommend this.
