Cutting a template

When you make/trace a template, do you cut to left of template line-onto actual template or cut right on line drawn, or to right of line letting it remain on actual template?

If I make a template shape, cut it out and then trace the shape onto fabric back, I cut right on the line.

I aim to cut through the center of the line, rather than to one side or the other.

If you are after exact accuracy cut the line off. When you trace around a template it enlarges the width of whatever
you are using to trace with. That is for tracing around the outside of a shape. The opposite is when tracing around the inside of a shape. Then leave the line. Hope this helps.

I cut the line off, not matter whether it is on the inside or outside curve. I figure the pencil point is past the template and not part of it.
