Can I do a D9P with scraps? Couldn't I just make 1 block with scraps, then make another one with different scraps? Would I need any borders between the blocks?

wolfkitty 09-23-2010 08:25 AM

It's your quilt. You can make it any way you like! No quilt police here!

thimblebug6000 09-23-2010 08:26 AM

It looks great with scraps, I would use one colour family for the center square so once it's sliced there will be some "pattern" visible.

ann clare 09-23-2010 08:43 AM

Would be lovely made using scraps.

erstan947 09-23-2010 08:52 AM

do 2 or 3 blocks and see if you like it.

dungeonquilter 09-23-2010 09:08 AM

I did mine with charm squares in the corners. I used one fabric for all the centers, and scrappy creams for the other squares.
Charm/Cream/Charm
Cream/Dark/Cream
Charm/Cream/Charm
I think I used three different charm packs, picking out the light ones and using them with the creams from my stash.
I have seen some done just all scrappy, but IMHO, I think it looks better with a little bit of consistancy.

I made this with three inch squares and it is very scrappy. I made sure to put all red center squares to tie it together.

QuiltQtrs 09-23-2010 10:46 AM

Love your quilt with the 3" sqs. in 9 patch. Then I guess you
split the block into 1/4'ths and re-assembled. Looks
terrific.

himnherr 09-23-2010 11:36 AM

I like! :-D

Now that's what I'm talking about!! Stunning. Thanks for sharing.

I think it would be beautiful. Go for it and don't forget to post a pic.

mom-6 09-23-2010 05:09 PM

I really like Penni's with the cream sashing, but I think you could also do it without sashing, but it would take quite a few more blocks.

deema 09-23-2010 05:18 PM

I'm no expert, but I think I'd like it better with sashing than without on a scrappy quilt. I can't see why you couldn't do a scrappy one, they're fun! But without sashing, I think it would just...I dunno, make me cross eyed or something! LOL The sashing breaks of the various scraps, kwim?

sewingladydi 09-23-2010 06:42 PM

Penni-cute cute quilt!

tooMuchFabric 09-23-2010 07:33 PM

Absolutely.
I did.
It was great.

Here's one I made with scraps.

purplefiend 09-23-2010 07:53 PM

I've made several that way and it looks great.

penni yours is so pretty. I like the sashings!

pennijanine 09-23-2010 09:20 PM

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I also like them without sashing, so whichever you plan to do, it will look great. Please remember to show us yours.

mrsreeves2 09-24-2010 11:38 AM

Penny, I really like your D9P with the sashing. This is the first time I have seen it layed out this way. My plan is to make a D9P quilt for my youngest grandson for Christmas next year (his cousins are getting quilts this Christmas). Maybe I'll do D9P for his brother too. One with sasing, one without.

amma 09-27-2010 03:19 PM

I can't wait to see your scrappy version :D:D:D

quilt addict 09-27-2010 03:32 PM

Now I know what to do with those charm packs that I have a box of. And I wanted to try a D9P.

Thanks for sharing.

Jingle 09-27-2010 04:29 PM

Penni, it is pretty, I'm starting one now doing it differently, hard to say what it may end up looking like, just started it, kind of thinking as I go and not going to use sashes. It is for a nephew in law and his 2 sons to use for TV watching this winter.

sewnsewer2, your is pretty also. Love the scrappy look.

np3 09-27-2010 04:39 PM

Try a few blocks first. I think you just might like it!

Julie in NM 09-27-2010 04:56 PM

Trick is CONTRAST as you see w/pic of quilts. As soon as the remodeling is done, I plan to do another D9P. Maybe a baby quilt.
