darning foot comes down too tight
hi again quilters--
i am trying free motion quilting---my darning foot comes down so low to the plate that it is very very hard to move the quilt around---does anyone know a remedy for this please |
That doesn't seem right to me. I think you need another darning foot. JMHO. I hope some with more knowledge than me can give you some better info.

Have you dropped your feed dogs, or covered them?

I have what is called a hopping foot and it is spring loaded so it doesn't hold the material down. You might need a hopping foot.

What machine are you using? Get out your machine manual and follow the directions for setting up the foot and covering or lowering the feed dogs. The foot will generally not hit the plate when it is lowered if it is positioned correctly and is the foot for your model of machine.

Is your machine electronic ? If so, check the utilty menu on your machine for an option to change the presser foot setting. I have this option on my machine, yet I swear it is not mentioned in the 'handbook' or 'user guide' that came with my machine .

It sounds like you have a darning foot for a different size shaft. When I got my machine, they gave me the long shaft foot for a short shaft machine. I had the same problem. check with your dealer.

Can you adjust presser foot height or pressure, if not you need a different foot, are you using a generic or one made for your machine
|
I agree with many of the ladies. This definitely sounds like decreasing the pressure on the foot would solve your problem. Get out the good old manual!!
