It hits on the front of the hole so think I'll try your suggestion to maybe make the hole a little larger since can't figure out why it's doing that. I used it a week or so ago and it was fine.
I you used it before and it worked fine, either the needle must be bent or the sandwiching is just too thick, but I would bet it is the needle - try a new needle.

I did have the wire in the right place but that gives me an idea. Wonder how it would work if I bent that wire just a bit. Hmmmmm.....

This is what I am thinking. I thought the needle was having issues, when really I needed to turn the bar to the back. I used a Big Foot FMQ attachment. With a walking foot the bar rests on top of the needle thumbscrew.

I usually don't bother with darning plates. Just set my stitch length to zero - that stops the feeddogs from pulling the fabric thru.
