Davis Oil/Grease: Faceplate removal & disassembly

Hello all,

Finally got to take apart my new-ish to me Davis NVF. Given the photos below, is there anything inside this machine that would require grease, or will it take only oil. There are a couple gears and cogs on the stitch adjustment. The machine was very gummed up so it's hard for me to tell if there was grease present or if I'm just looking at ancient oil. I'm going to be sonic cleaning the parts, but I don't plan on trying to clear the exterior of the housing because I don't want to damage the decals.

Here are all the parts. I didn't remove the arm underneath. It appears to have ball bearings in a race, so I will leave it as is.

As far as I know (and I may be wrong) grease goes on gears, and oil on the other areas where it's metal on metal

If you want help, post this in the Vintage Machine area. They all know a lot about old machines. Your Davis is beautiful!

Thanks. I apologize, I accidentally posed in the wrong section and hadn't noticed. I was curious about the lack of response.

thanks,
Brandon

Welcome to the board although you have been here a while. I don’t know anything about this particular machine, which is beautiful by the way however I have a few vintage machines myself and I always grease the gears and oil on other parts. Once you post your pictures and questions under the Vintage machines area you will get all kinds of responses. Good luck!
