Dear Jane is insane!

I just received the Dear Jane quilt book that I ordered. It looks so challenging.

If anyone has done a Dear Jane, I would love to get some tips on how to do it.

I also promise that the next one I see posted, I will praise like crazy!! This is not an easy quilt to make.

I have a friend who has been working on hers for a year !! Its looking beautiful but it sure is time consuming !!

Mine may be a "Dear Jocelyn" (my name) instead of Dear Jane as I may end up modifying many of the blocks! Gosh it looked easier when I saw pictures of completed ones. I may just start with the appliqued ones. The piecing looks so hard. Maybe I will do one block a week and spend the 169 weeks completing it. Man. It does look beautiful when it is done though!

I just don't have the time for a dear Jane or the want to either.

Jocelyn, I felt the same way when I got my book....which was years ago. I didn't have much knowledge of it but I just liked the quilt! I joined in with the group doing one now on this board & am absolutely loving it! I'm actually following "that quilt" site/tutorials posted above, which for me is quite good. If you go to our thread here, again, as mentioned above, you'll see various styles/techniques. It shows you how everyone is different in what is best for them. I am a little behind in my weekly blocks, but no matter, it sure is fun to sit & do a few! And the group is so encouraging!

This is an amazing quilt. I wonder what Jane Stickle would think today if she knew how famous her quilt has become?

Everyone I know who has done a Dear Jane quqilt found it very relaxing. Most of the 'gals' even commented on how relaxing it was to make. The blocks are small, hand stitched, and very portable. The hand stitching somehow connecteed them to a slower time in out history. Of course all they had ever planned to do was 1 or a very few blocks per month. They started out with this intent and enjoyed the process.

I hope you can take the time to go slow and enjoy the process.
