Deb Tucker ruler
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has used the Deb Tucker Lemoyne star ruler? I looks so interesting and I have a quilt with over 20 Lemoyne stars, but it's so pricy that I'm reluctant to get it unless it is really worth the $. Also, does anybody know of a place to get it at a discount? Thanks.

If its the one Fons and Porter showed. The price was close to $30.00. I just made the Lemoyne star with HST.

Though the initial reaction is sticker shock, stop and think about the value of having the ruler do most of the thinking work for you. If you break it down to your one quilt it will be $1.50 per star. The more stars you make the ruler will actually become free to use. That's the way I look at prices for items.

I love that ruler. Yes it is pricey. What to consider is if you like piecing those stars with a Y seam. This prevent you from doing the Y seam. It give you perfect points where they meet and perfect 1/4 inch at the end point of the stars so you are not chopping the star points. The question you have to ask yourself is whether you want to avoid the hard way of making those beatiful stars.
I have made over 100 of those stars in many sizes using that ruler and gotten almost to perfect blocks. |
I have that ruler, as well. Bought it for a Lemoyne star workshop where they taught how to use it. Works great. She has videos on utube on how her rulers are used in case you need a refresher.

Yes this ruler is worth it but I wonder if you can look around and see if you can get a better deal. I bought several of her rulers at a quilt show and got a much better price overall.
I do agree if you are planning to use it for only 12 stars and you will never use it again then it is too much. |
I'm a gadget gal so I would probably get it.

I don't have it, but I did look at it. It really takes alot for me to buy a special ruler. The only time I have is that I have made about 5 Day and Night quilts (the book came with a ruler). If you're a pattern person, it may be worth getting it, if your an adventurous sort of person, google Lemoyne star directions and you may find another way.

One of those situations where you don't know something is supposed to be complicated so you just jump in.... I picked up a book at the library for a Lemoyne star quilt. It was a strip piecing method and I used my regular 6 x 24 ruler. No issue except having to occasionally straighten my cutting edge. Wasn't aware Y seams were supposed to be difficult either!
