has anyone done this one yet? I just got the pattern and it sucks in directions. some numbers were hand written in and the sheet photo copied. some sentences i don't understand at all. shoot. i really wanted to make this but am thinking of sending it back already. anyone?
I'm sure i can wing it but I shouldn't have to.

sewmuch 10-26-2010 07:40 AM

It sure looks nice, but difficult to me....I'm not good on directions, need to be shown..

np3 10-26-2010 07:40 AM

No, you shouldn't have to. I haven't seen the pattern but I'm going to go look it up. We might want to avoid the designer if that is the way the pattern is written...

nativetexan 10-26-2010 07:42 AM

I just emailed Connecting Threads to see what they say. I do so hate bad directions!
one sentence says "sew the strips together into two indential strip sets(four strip sets if using fat qtrs). sew the strips in numerical order from 1 to 10 in sets of two per point 6 below."
i will have to study this one before attempting it and then most likely go by the picture. i printed off a larger one off their site.

sewmuch 10-26-2010 07:57 AM

thats a good idea to ask them

seamstome 10-26-2010 08:25 AM

Dang I was going to buy that.

laureneberhard 10-26-2010 08:38 AM

I have that pattern ordered...it's on backorder now.
Let us know what CT says

Sadiemae 10-26-2010 10:36 AM

So sorry for the bad directions, but I like that pattern.

amma 10-26-2010 11:09 AM

That pattern is gorgeous! Sorry it is giving you fits :(

nativetexan 10-26-2010 11:14 AM

well perhaps if i study it , it will make more sense. i was just hoping someone else here had already tackled it.
with studying the directions and the larger picture i printed out, i should make it.
i ordered thread and the pattern and got both quickly. i noticed when i just clicked on the pattern, it was always on back order , but i didn't want the kit.

ruth c 10-26-2010 12:56 PM

sure liked that pattern.

Quiltforme 10-26-2010 01:03 PM

Bascially means you have 10 different fabrics sstrips sized 2 1/2 sewn in order from 1-10 giving you 6 sets 10 fabric strips sewn together. Next step is probably cutting them in different sizes.

BATIKQLTR 10-26-2010 01:13 PM

I ordered that pattern and just received a shipping notice. Once I receive it, maybe we can try to do it together.

I have a bargello book that has one really easy to follow pattern in it. It is "Beautiful Bargello". The pattern that was the best explained is "Barjelly Table Covering". I have made it up ( just a placemat size) to see if I could follow the instructions.

As soon as I get the kit, I'll PM you & maybe we can figure it out.............I really want to make this, it is so pretty!

Dee Dee 10-26-2010 01:24 PM

Let us know what you find out about this. It is a super cute pattern.

BellaBoo 10-26-2010 01:31 PM

Here is the pattern designer's web page! and she has a blog.

No reason she can't clarify the instructions.

I have just ordered the same pattern, it is on back order. Hope I have no problem with it. There is a place on there that u can email them if you run into any problems with a pattern, I would do some research on checking this out. Hope you can get it completed. I am so excited on getting it, but now I'm wondering if I should cancel my order. I am terrible with directions, I am a visual peson. Good luck with your pattern. Barb

nativetexan 10-26-2010 06:29 PM

hey, thanks for her site. i printed out Walk About and love Moon Shadows too!!
no, don't cancel your order. it was just written on and worded odd. i'm sure we can all make the quilt just fine, after reading the pattern a bit.
thanks fellow quilters!

caquiltingdeb 10-26-2010 06:29 PM

I almost ordered that pattern, glad now that I haven't yet.

nativetexan 10-26-2010 06:31 PM

no, no. don't "not" order it. look on her site. she does lots of quilt as you go bargello. i must read the pattern a few times and then i'm sure everything will click.

Judith 10-27-2010 04:39 PM

I was going to order this pattern too. Maybe I'll wait to see how you make out with contacting Connecting Threads. I have been very pleased with all of my dealings with this company. I'm sure that if you contact them they will make it all right for you.

Dee Dee 11-10-2010 01:51 PM

I just received my pattern and fabric today. Read the pattern and I have the answer to one of your questions. In step 5 the phrase "per point 6 below," should have parenthesis around it. Should say sew the strips in numerical order from 1 to 10 in sets of two (per point #6 below.) Yes, it was confusing.

Now, I need help. Step 11 says "Sew each set into a tube" ---What does that mean? How do you sew strips into a tube?

I don't have this pattern, but it may mean you take those strips and sew the two ends together. Then you separate it between the colors indicated on the pattern.

nativetexan 11-10-2010 04:11 PM

I haven't tried making this yet. I am sure with more careful reading, I'll be able to do it. and yes i figured out the point 6 below. odd way of saying it though.
anybody made this up yet???

Dee Dee 11-10-2010 08:07 PM

You are sooo right. It was an odd way of saying it. Actually, a lot of the instructions are not crystal clear. Like you, I'd really like to hear from someone who has made it. Anyone out there???

Yarn or Fabric 11-11-2010 03:57 AM

I was going to order that but then talked myself out of it. I know I won't get to it this year :'(
Sorry to hear that the directions are duds.

Edistoshopper 11-11-2010 01:24 PM

I tried ordering the pattern from CT about 2 weeks ago and it was backordered until 11/11/10. Tried today and it is backordered until 11/22/10. I also saw where we could order the fabric but not the kit. However, they do NOT have all of the fabric. 2575 Swirl Irish is not available either. Since I don't know what exact color this is (and being a batik, it would be hard to match), I really don't want to order some of the fabric from CT and try to find another green batik that would work. I may order the pattern online from somewhere else, but have to find fabrics elsewhere. Bummer. Loved the look of the pattern and will wait until I see if others can figure out the directions. So if you try it, let us know!

Sadiemae 11-11-2010 03:10 PM

You can also purchase the pattern as a download, if you prefer.

laura59 11-11-2010 03:34 PM

Now, I need help. Step 11 says "Sew each set into a tube" ---What does that mean? How do you sew strips into a tube?

I believe what they mean is that you sew up each long side, this will form a tube.

If I understand correctly- this strip is made up of your different fabrics, you sew the two ends together(the short ends) so that then you can unsew between the colors that you need to for each strip.

Dee Dee 11-11-2010 05:39 PM

Not sure I understand.

I could be totally wrong, but it sounds like you are making the individual strips to do the bargello pattern. I will try to show what I mean, but I had trouble taking pics.

Does your strip look like this?

Sew the two ends together.

Then separate where they they tell you to.

Thank you. That is very helpful!

I just finished it. It is beautiful but time consuming not a quicky. I just took the directions and did one by one and they came out fine. It sounds confusing but is not just start and do each step then you will say Oh!

jgriinke 12-09-2010 10:42 AM

I would email the designer. She should be able to explain exactly what she means. Connecting Threads just sells it, and probably won't be much help with the directions. I would go right to the source of the problem. ;-)
