Is there a definition of a postage stamp quilt? Is it just anything made with all squares of equal sizes?

Yes, I think it's 2 inch blocks.

Is that the size of the finished blocks or before they're sewn?

That's way too big for a postage stamp quilt. A postage stamp quilt has pieces that are the same size as stamps. Beyond that you can do anything else with the design and colors that you want.

Usually the blocks finish at 1- 1 1/2" about the size of a postage stamp

I have read that some are made where every block is different, no fabric is repeated. But in general I don't believe that to be so. Most of the ones I have seen are very scrappy in nature :D:D:D

I believe a true Postage Stamp Quilt is made of all 1" squares (cut 1 1/2")) because that is about the size of a postage stamp. A Charm Quilt is a quilt made from the same piece (square, triangle, tumbler, apple core, rectangle etc.) cut from all different fabrics so each piece is different.

I don't think most stamps are that big. I think the average stamp is about 1/2 inch wide and 3/4 inch long. There are the occasional special issue stamps that are bigger.

Everything I'm reading so far says 1" finished squares. I don't think anyone is going to compare it to a real postage stamp-especially since they come in lots of sizes these days.

btw I have never seen a postage stamp 1/2" wide. Maybe I haven't seen enough postage stamps...

eta: i have found 7/8" wide by 1" tall.
