Has anyone ever made this, or have the pattern?

http://www.ericas.com/sewing/patterns/A11571b.jpg

I got it last week and looking at the picture on the cover it looks as if they have used webbing for the handles. The pattern itself calls for a piece of fabric 3 inches wide. I have looked everywhere for 3 inch webbing and can't find it.

I emailed Erica's since that is where I purchased it from and they only carry 1 inch. Joann Fabrics only carries 2 inch. I know the pattern calls for "material" 3 inches wide, but that looks like webbing to me and I think it would be stronger.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks

I suspect that the fabric is 3 inches wide because you fold it 2 or 3 times to make a strong handle. With the webbing you can make it your desired width and it would be strong enough.

From the proportions of the photo, those look to be 1 or 1 1/2" handles. Usually if you make handles from fabric, you wind up trippleing the fabric, so a 3" width of fabric would make a handle about 1" wide. If you want to go with webbing, I would go with 1". I have made dozens of bags and use 1". I have used nylon, polypropelene & cotton. They all seem to be about the same strength.

Yep you could use 1 or 1.5" webbing. Cute bag.

you certainly could use webbing if you wanted---but-- a bag
looks much classier with fabric handles. depends on the fabric & how you would use the bag. good-looking pattern.
