Denim and corduory

Any advice on mixing Denim and corduory in a quilt? I have a bunch of both and was wanting to mix them up for something different.

I think they would work fine together. It would be heavy though.

one of my best quilts is a patchwork denim/corduroy quilt- it is fabulous and actually started a family tiff---between 3 people who wanted it :)
i turned the corduroy patches in different directions as i went along so there is lots of texture, various looks.
it is a nice, warm heavy quilt- i used a hobbs 80/20 batt & flannel on the back- l
i made a denim patch work quilt with corduroy (critter) appliques too- that one is pretty great too. the 2 fabrics (play well) together :)

My experience with denim and corduroy is to either use a half inch seam allowance or serge (overcast) the quarter inch seams. The corduroy especially likes to pull out of the seams and fray. It does add some interesting texture as ckcowl suggested.

I agree...it can work beautifully...I use a 1/2 inch seam with these heavier fabrics and they hold up well. Heavy though:)

Both fabrics can have more raveling ... So a wider seam allowance or overcasting is a good idea. Denim and corduroy do make for very heavy quilts. I had a heck of a time trying to quilt mine on my regular machine.. I ended up tying it.

I did a quilt as well out of cord and denim. I used a 1/2 inch seam to.......funny my family fights over that one too. It's a favorite!!!

My mother made a quilt like that when we were kids. My sister slept under the quilt and could not turn over in the bed. It was too heavy for her but it kept her in the bed at night! She was a sleep walker.

I use both fabrics, omit the batting and use a flannel backing. I then have a friend tie the quilt instead of FMQ.

I have used patches of corduroy in a quilt that was otherwise cotton, and it looked pretty cool. The quilting was SITD, so I didn't have to deal with getting across the thick seams, which might have broken my needle. Since I was using a mix of fabric weights (some so light that I had to put fusible on the back to make them less transparent) I couldn't use a heavy needle to quilt. I think a denim and corduroy quilt would look very cool.
