Denim+Homespun in Rag Quilt?

Has anyone mixed homespun cotton with medium/heavy weight cotton denim in a rag quilt? My daughter thinks it would be lovely, but I worry that the difference in the weights of the two fabrics will lead to disaster.

Thank you all in advance for sharing your knowledge. I don't know what I'd do without this wonderful resource!

I combined a medium weight denim with two layers of flannel and it was no problem. I prewashed the flannel because the denim came from old pants. A heavy starching kept the flannel from stretching. I don't see homespun as being any more of a problem than flannel.

I've seen denim and homespun together quite a bit. I don't think it would be a problem. I've seen minky and regular cottons put into rag quilts, too.

I am not sure how well the denim or homespun will shred and curl as nicely as flannel does.

I did a flannel/ denim....ragged without a problem. I think homespun would work...it is a lighter weave so shredding would be natural. Btw...I did not pre wash or starch anything....washed 3/4 xs at laundromat...came out great!

I have done denim and cotton rag quilts with no issues. Frankly as long as the material you use will fray, i think it will be fine to use.

This one is cotton and flannel on one side and denim on the back side.

I think homespun and denim would be lovely together... my only thought would be on the homespun. It does fray but will it hold together enough to be a ragged edge or will it just fray away? personally I don't know the answer, I just know that homespun frays alot

what pattern are you planning on using? I think if it was one of those circle rag quilts with the homespun in the circle it would fine .. and look pretty awesome too :)

These two fabrics will fray well together

Thank you all for your thoughtful and knowledgeable replies! I've been afraid the homespun wouldn't hold up with denim on the other side. But now I realize that the denim will actually provide stability and strength when sewn to the homespun. So here I go!
