Here I've been chugging right along on my quilting track, but tonight I have been derailed. I heard the plea from DD and DGD that they need new stockings to hang. DD has a plain one from the dollar store as her's got lost when they moved and DGD has decided she has now outgrown Hello Kitty and needs something more mature, like princesses. LOL So I advised them both to have a long talk with Santa about it, and then immediately went to search the QB for patterns. I found lots of them. My problem, other than being particularly dense apparently, is of all the ones I read and downloaded, not one of them made it clear to me about how to attach the cuff and lining after you have made the stocking part. I can understand if there is just a cuff and no lining; or just a lining and no cuff. lol But when you have both... the photos just are not clear and the writing seems Greek to me. Can anyone help with a clear sketch or explanation of just that part?

If I am not mistaken the cuff is two parts like the stocking and one side of the cuff is sewn to ne side of the stocking. then the stocking and cuff are sewn together giving the cuff a seam in the back just like the stocking. Then the cuff is folded down onto the stocking. You cut 2 pieces of each side of the cuff then tun and pin in place then the sock and cuff. Does that help?

Then the cuff would have a seam in the front and back.. or on both edges anyway, rather than just one seam in the back?

The ones I've made the 'cuff' was a single thickness of fabric &/or wide ribbon attached only on the front and stitched into the side seams, not going all the way around. I also did not line mine...yeah, I cheated but I was doing 14 of them and everybody loves theirs!

After you piece the top, lay it wrong side up on 3 layers of fabric a little large than the stocking. Pin, then sew around the stocking. I usually just use the foot width as my guide.Cut out the stocking, all layers. Trim curves if needed. Turn the stocking right side out and it is now stocking front and 3 matching shapes. Machine baste the front and 1 layer together. Now you have your stitching all hidden, and 2 layers for your back. continued

I use fleece for the cuff.About 7 inches wide and the length of stocking top +1.5 inches, folded in half. Turn stocking inside out. Line cut edge of cuff with edge of stocking. Start in the center back and sew around the stocking top. When you reach the heel side of the stocking, slip the hanger in between the cuff and the stocking, with the loop toward the heel. Keep sewing until you get back to the center back.Trim threads,turn it all right side out, fold the cuff into position. Easy to embroider too if you want.?s, pm me.

Make the stocking and the cuff separate. Then sew the cuff to the stocking by placing right side of cuff to wrong side of stocking. This puts the stocking/cuff seam under the cuff when you turn the cuff down over the stocking.
