Design Ideas needed for rag quilt

I decided to make my Assistant a lap size rag quilt for Christmas in her favorite fall colors and need some ideas. I enjoy piecing so I would like to incorporate pieces blocks in the rag quilt. I have looked in line but nothing inspires me. Any suggestions on a design? Thanks so much

The rag quilts I made with 5" squares were so heavy I couldn't imagine cutting anything smaller. Maybe something modern? Or enlarging the pieces of a complex block so the quilt is one large block instead of many small blocks of the same pattern?

stars would work well. square with hst's around it. rag quilts look good with star blocks. or just squares too. perhaps rectangles and some squares made into blocks and turned every which way when put together. good luck. I did one with squares with cotton and corduroy fabrics. red and green.

I made one with 8" flannel squares and 1/2" seams. Have not seen any with pieced blocks.

Here's a couple that I have made.

I have made two using the same design as the first picture that gingerd showed. The first was a tractor fabric in the larger block and then different flannels for the four patch, made for my husband. The second was a cute small travel trailer print with the four patches made with coordinating flannels and some minky for my daughter. There is a free pattern on the internet for this. I did sew the x's through the larger blocks. I do try to take picture of my quilts but unfortunately don't have pictures of either one. There are so many variations on the internet, pinterest or Google.

I'm awful with links but there's a cute free pattern online for a log cabin baby quilt that's really easy-looking and might be the right size for a lap quilt

Dmarie,
i really like your raq quilt. Did you see the small center blocks onto the next size block then sewers that block onto the larger size block? Before adding the batting and backing? Thanks
