Design Ideas needed
I got a huge box....I mean huge box of leftover fabric from a lady that was making masks. There are hundreds of rectangles that measure 10 x 7.5 inches. The patterns run the 10 inch wide direction. This was the size that the masks would have been made from. I took the fabric in the hopes of making quilts for our local DSS-Foster Care. I have made one quilt--a quilt as you go pattern out of some yardage panels, and 2.5 strips that were in the box.
I want to take the 10 x 7.5 rectangles and do something similar with them. The other blocks were 18 inch prior to assembly of the quilt as you go quilt. The quilt then was 3 blocks wide by 4 blocks long and was about a twin size quilt when completed. The quilt as you go blocks come together quickly--but how do I use these without creating more scraps? How would you use these rectangles?? |
I would sew the rectangles together to make a big rectangle block and quilt as you go using the big blocks.

You can make Chevron pattern with rectangles if you have enough in each colour for a row. You could also look for brick quilt patterns on Google
|
How about laying them out as bricks. You may want to cut them to 5.5 or so by 10.

I was thinking bricks too. Not too much brain work that way and cute.

Someone here put this pattern up the other day and I saved it to my "bucket list" file. It would work for your scraps with the addition of a background.

if you use the brick layout like shown above, I would cut them at 5x10 and use the 2.5 leftovers for a scrappy binding. or cut them into 7.5" squares and again, you have scrappy binding leftover. could be an easy nine patch.

Watson had the same idea that I had - https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...e-t315574.html and instructions can be found at https://www.rachelmhayes.com/single-...-Quilt-Pattern. Here is the link to a free pattern that uses rectangles. The size is up to you! |

Do you want easy? Or do you want a French braid? I'm working on my first one, using it as a border. My instructions had me cut 2.5" by 7", but any rectangles will do. I found this pic on Google images.
