Which design for a man?
2 Attachment(s)
This is a quilt made out of knit fabrics from my brother-in-laws recently deceased grandfather. The fabrics look good together, even if my mock-up colors don't look great. Which patten do you like more? I don't think I can add too much more, or I will be out of materials. Since it's all knit, I didn't want to add any borders in regular cotton, as I don't like the look of the two materials together.

Shaley, I prefer the second design. I thing the background blocks in the first design detract from the center block. You are brave to quilt with knits. It will be a lovely remembrance.
Based on your mock-up, I prefer the first one. My eyes rest more.
I like the second one, it kind of looks like a shooting star with the background in rays.
My husband says the second one. (that is also the one I prefer)
Without seeing the fabrics/colours you are using, it's hard to know which would be more pleasing.
To me, design wise both could work quite well. Another possibility would be a TATW (Trip Around The World) layout for the background squares. |
I like #2 more than #1. I like the flow of the blocks, and think they make the center stand out more.

I prefer the second one

No. 2 is my choice
Another 2 here. I think it sets off the star better.
Second one ...
Number 2 also.
I like the second one best. The main focus for me is on the center block in mock-up #2. How very nice of you to make a quilt for you brother-in-law in memory of his grandfather.
#2 is my favorite also.
It's easier to focus on the star in the first photo. I think there's a little too much background movement for me in the second photo. So I'd go with the first design.

I prefer the second layout

I prefer the second. I might consider putting the star off center, almost but not quite up in a corner. The star could be rotated on point, but perhaps that would be tricky.

I like the second design. It seems to have a better flow. It will look great when you are done, I know.

Yup with the seconds
I like the second one best.
Second one, but both are lovely.
I agree with Joe's Mom. There's too much movement in the second one. The first one is more restful and easier to look at. Good for you, making a quilt from meaningful knits.
I prefer the first one. It is just more attractive to my eye.
#1 for me. No matter which layout you choose, the quilt will be stunning.
Second. When I make boy or men's quilts I don't use florals or girly colors. Pattern doesn't matter to me.

Hi all! Thanks for the help, it sounds like I'm going with the second choice. These are the 9 shirts I was given. I'm going to use the 'tribal' print as the binding. Which color would you put where? |
I think they are fine the way you have them.
If you put interfacing on the back of the knits it will not stretch out of shape. I like the 2nd pattern best.
I like the second layout.
